I got my new 3mo old puppy, a bull boxer in November 2021 and on day 3 after the shelter she broke her leg chasing the cats and had to have 2 surgeries. I've never had a dog, more of a cat person here. Those were dark times, I regretted adopting her because I was so inexperienced and became depressed. She couldn't do much, so we would just sit on the couch and marathon your videos (she watched too!). I would train, in short sessions. Today she is 6 months old, she's all healed up, goes "potty outside" does sit, lay down, stand up, come here and spin. Zak and Bree, me and Bella thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Seeing Biscuits pass out after all the lessons and exercise makes me realize how tiring but satisfying school was. But it was a fun and remarkable experience. With a great teacher, you can have a fulfilling nap knowing that you did pretty well that day😊 Thanks Zak for the comprehensive and reality-based training I saw here. Such a great content❤

I’m so happy that I found this channel. I was searching for dog training on YT and found so many sporadic videos. This channel, with how you guys walk through initial ownership and training, has made me so comfortable with our upcoming puppy. I still worry about those needle teeth and my 18 month old. But seeing you use a lead in the house and watching you build a solid relationship with Biscuit helps to ease those concerns. My hope is that my dog, Bruce, an American Staffie, builds that relationship so that his attention is with me while introducing playing with my children. Breaking down things like “good” versus “yes”. Is something I plan on teaching my 4 and 7 year olds. Also the limited use of “no” to indicate a major negative behavior versus constantly using no for ever adverse behavior is eye opening. Additionally, watching you succeed, and more importantly fail but then circling back to the basics is truly noteworthy and inspiring. It shows that training is done over time versus in a 15 minute video. Thank you guys so much!

We read through your entire book and are re-reading parts that come up during the training process. We just got our puppy and he's 10-weeks old right now applying your training methods of positive reinforcements and treats. Can't wait to take ours outside and have him re-learn all those training with the distractions and noise outdoors haha. Thanks for your helpful videos and cheers!

Hey, I was wondering if you might be able to do a video on training basenjis. My girl is a year old, and I train her every day, but she's still pretty wild. She does better than your typical basenji, she tugs and fetches when the mood strikes her, but she'll steal shoes, slippers, and socks, and play keep away for attention. Its driving my mom crazy. I feel like training a basenji might be a great challenge for you.

Zak. Can you please do a video on how to help make sure your puppy gets over fears of bigger dogs? I have an Australian shepherd puppy.I got her not only as a new family member but as a companion and help to my son who is 8 and autistic. Im trying to teach her what I can on my own. I can't afford the service dogs that are out there so I am trying to do the best i can with what resources and means I can. I have family members who have dogs. I took her out today to try to socialize her a little. We went to my mothers to see her and her dog and my nephew is next door.he has a german shepherd dog that I had never seen aggressive before. He let the dog out and she almost became lunch I couldn't even bend down to pick her up he had to run up and pull him back so I could grab her. The best I could do at the time was pull her by her leash and try to keep her away from him but he just kept on going after her.I Don't know what to do with this and then later we stopped at feeders supply to pick up treats and I took her in and there happened to be a great dane in there who started barking at her scared her to death. Needless to say she didn't have a good day. I don't want her to have fear of other dogs when I am trying to train her to be protective and help my son when he needs it. What can I do to ensure this hasn't screwed her up long term. Also I would like to know how to train her to help keep him aware of roads cars and his surroundings. Thats my main concern with my son. He just goes he doesn't stop look or pay attention. Thank you if you managed to get through all this. Sincerely k

Hey Zak! Love everything you do. I wonder if you have any opportunity to talk about livestock guardian dogs. We just rescued a 4 month old Great Pyrenees mix and he's an interesting training challenge. He seems to get bored easily while also having an unbreakable focus on distractions (not food motivated, not toy motivated when he's watching people or cars or small animals). We are taking it slow with him, we think he came out of a rough situation but we also want some solid structure for him but he is very unlike the sort of attentive dogs we often see on your channel. Any thoughts?
@andrewfern76252 жыл бұрын
I have a Pyr mix that I rescued as a pup as well. For me, the biggest thing was getting her to look at me. I used the word “look” then held a treat up to my eye line to get that engagement (it look many, many repetitions). From there, positive feedback with guardian breeds is essential. They are never going to be as obedient as a collie, German shepherd, etc, but getting the basics down firmly over a longer period of time was very helpful for me. My dog now is much better at listening

What treat sack do you use? I saw in one video that your treat sack appeared to close magnetically, and this to me is an important feature. So many have zippers or drawstrings, but that means having to manually manipulate the sack, possibly with both hands. A magnetic closure seem like it would close “automatically” but be easily be opened with a single hand. If I’m correct with the magnetic closure for you treat sack, can you let us know where you got it?

Hi there! My dog doest listen to vocal cues. He only responds to hand signals. It is becoming very difficult, and I'm sure confusing for him, when I try to teach him new tricks. I have run out of new hand signals so new signals look too similar to old ones and he ends up doing the wrong trick. Could you please do a video explaining how to get them to respond to vocal cues. I would be very appreciative. Thank you 😀

I was wondering if you had a video about a problem I often have; I will go and train and play with dogs and often they will be so trilled they will treat me like their possession and start guarding me from other dogs, I was wondering what the best course is to prevent that as taking them away when they do this seems to further their frustration.

You can start training right away! Good breeders will even start desensitizing + socializing puppies before they go home. Just don’t ask your puppy to do strenuous physical activity in training, like a lot of jumping, as we want to protect their joints. lol I'm sorry, to see you worrying about your dog licking elk poop. . .that's funny. My dog, when she was a puppy was OBSESSED with deer poop and cow poops. And living where we do, there is plenty of both in abundance. Ugh. Every time we ran into some, she'd start eating it so fast, it's a wonder she didn't choke herself. After the first few times, I finally gave up particularly caring and just moved on to managing how MUCH she ate. She never ever got sick from that, thank God. Even so far as an upset stomach. (Plenty of other things upset her tummy, but not that!) Eventually, she grew out of that and now just sniffs it or ignores it. Thankfully. Except the odd 'unidentified' gross thing she might find in the grass (usually before I even see there's anything there. ugh!) we're free of the poop eating. But yeah. It's gross and who wants to be kissed after that? Blargh!! Biscuits is so cute all passed out like that. Eee! Puppy bellies. She is so darned cute - and full of it!

I wish I shopped instead of adopting because I adopted this pit mix back in August and since then he's been shitting and peeing in the house. I give him constant outside breaks when I'm home but he still manages to pee/poop in the house.. just this morning he pooped in his crate.. in his crate! I crate him overnight while I sleep (because he would either pee/poop somewhere in the house or just sleep for an hour and wake me up) and this morning woke up and smelled like poop.. I walk to his crate and he's just looking at me... He's not even a pup, he's 4 years old... he doesn't bark which I want him to bark so he can let me know that he's gotta go... He only barks when he meets a new dog or something.. I'm so tired of this... I thought I was doing the right thing by adopting and not shopping but I'm starting to think the original owners gave him up because he does this... It's not like he's dumb, he's very smart, he knows what he be doing....I've came to the conclusion that I am not the right owner for him..If anyone here wants this task please let me know. I'll even pay shipping
