Extremely useful, thank-you. Always good to have different methods in the toolkit. This is great.

I've got a 4 month old working cocker. I'm finding it hard to practise recall because she doesn't leave my side. Even outside off the lead. Never had such a clingy breed before.

Great Video. Nelly is gorgeous, I love black Cocker Spaniels. We have a 2 year old golden/red Cocker Spaniel. She is great and I have invested a lot of time training her. She is very good, sits, down, stay, gives the paw, twirls etc. plus I have worked a lot with socialising her to animals, dogs and people. She is a pleasure to take anywhere as she will stay with us even off the lead without many issues and has excellent recall. My only issue is during the summer. If she sees Swallows darting around at low level over the ground she chases after them. It's amazing exercise for her, however it is the only time when she will not come back to my calls. Only when she is exhausted will she come back to me. I am going to practice recall again over the next few months to really work on it. Have you any tips. Excellent video's by the way.

Thanks glad you’re enjoying the videos. It sounds like your cocker is doing really well and without seeing her my advice would be to constantly train with distractions and get her to change her focus on you as soon as the distraction appears Do it with a long lead and correct/communicate with the lead as soon as she sees the birds with a little tug so she focuses on you and recall her Show/teach her what you expect from her every time a bird appears - praise when doing right discipline when doing wrong with repetition and lots of fuss and treats when she comes back she’ll quickly learn. Most importantly if she doesn’t come back when you call her when she eventually decides to come back don’t tell her off

@@TheDogTherapist Thank you for your reply. Happy New Year. She is very good, and does not chase after birds normally and even sets when she scents or sees Ducks but does not pounce after them. It is just Swallows during the summer. It's like a game to her, when swallows are flying low across the ground in a field or a park she chases after them but obviously never gets close. But she is so focused that she will not come back when called. Normally her recall is excellent. I will follow your advice and start working with her again to improve her behavour and improve her focus on me.

Thanks for a Great video , Going to give this a try . We have got a 14 month old working cocker spaniel but only got her at 9 months old . Her recall is not good at all , soon as she sees birds she’s off which is quite scary . We have been trying a whistle which works for so long then she just ignores it and bolts . I can throw a ball all day long when she’s off and she’s really obsessed with it but really just want her to be off and sniffing like Nelly is .
