"There were dragons, when I was a boy..." that monologue at the end are the first lines in the book. It's Hiccup in his 80s re-telling the story of him and toothless to little kids. Poetic how they made it the ending line for the movies.

I really appreciate Valka's subtle parenting throughout this movie. It had to be very difficult to be taken when Hiccup was a baby and come back when he was a nearly fully grown man, but she handles parenting a young man REALLY well.
@tehdipstick
@tehdipstick 10 ай бұрын
The fact that Hiccup had a statue of Stoick placed right in the middle of the village, the most important spot where just about all the village ceremonies would take place, shows just how much his father means to him. Hiccup has a great support system in Astrid, Valka and Gobber, but it's incredibly touching to me how, for important decisions, he still looks to memories of his dad to help guide him. This movie really cements just how much Hiccup looks up to and reveres Stoick, both as his father and as a leader. The relationship between hiccup and Toothless has always been the main focus, of course, but I love the father and son relationship as well. In that regard the first movie feels like it's about a father learning to understand his son, while the second movie is about a son understanding his father, and the third definitely feels like Hiccup is honoring his father by finding his own way to lead. I hope you'll eventually check out the How To Train Your Dragon Christmas specials, at least The Gift of The Night Fury, which takes place a couple of months after the events of the first movie. It's really sweet and heartwarming, and I think you'd enjoy it.

I know that it is a crazy thing to expect of anyone to forge through series' of television; But just saying... the television series' are quality entertainment! (Riders of Berk. Defenders of Berk. Race to the edge) Good writing. Lovely world building. Great voice work. And very nice animation for t.v shows of the time (nowhere up to the movies of course).

Funny, because this is my least favorite movie of the franchise. I feel like the third movie is realy controversial in the fandom. Well, atleast we can all agree that the nine realm is the worst httyd Media. I am happy that the httyd fandom is not really toxic, so everyone can live in peace, whether someone like something or not.

Some people refer to animation simply as "cartoons". They've not seen these 3 films. I love animation, but no other animation ever touched me like this. Even these years later, watching folks like yourself watching them for the first time. I can still get the same chills and emotions, too. John Powell's scores are far more a part of these films than any other score/film combo i've seen, This was a beautiful viewing today. You are now officially a part of the HTTYD family. 😇😘

People confuse animation with "genre". Animation is actually a dizzyingly diverse MEDIUM, for telling any and every kind of tale... even safe and simple stories to keep little children occupied. But it is simply incorrect to imagine that that is all animation is.

You NEED to see the TV series, Dragons:Riders of Berk, Dragons: Defenders of Berk and especially Race to the Edge ! They all take place after the first movie and before the second. Not for a video commentary necessarily, but just for yourself. They really flesh out the story and explain a lot. You'll love them.

I love how each of the films villains(villagers/Stoick, Drago, Grimmel) paralleled with the decisions Hiccup could have made. For the first film, had he killed the dragon he would have been accepted as viking just like everyone else. second film is if he blamed/hated Toothless for hurting him(losing his leg). And lastly this film if Hiccup had killed the dragon and he found out he enjoyed it, he might have spiraled out of control with addiction. I'm so glad that when DreamWorks asked Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders to come back for a second film after the success of the first, they said only if they could make it a trilogy.

One neat thing about the Light Fury is when she becomes "invisible," her plasma blast (fire) activates the reflective scales all over her body. The scales then act like a mirror that bends the light to look like the surroundings making her seem invisible. Toothless and the Light Fury's babies are called Nightlights and have the same ability. The babies names are Dart (black with white and blue eyes, female), Ruffrunner (black with white and green eyes, male), and Pouncer (white with black and green eyes, male).

This movie is so bittersweet, so much sadness yet so much joy. The scene that breaks my heart, to even think about, let alone watch, is how they did Hiccup and Toothless's final goodbye. It is an exact reverse of their first real hello. Their trust began when Hiccup reached out, turned his head away, and closed his eyes and Toothless came to him. Their time together ends with Hiccup closing his eyes, turning his head, and pulling his hand back as he steps away. They release their bond by reversing the actions that created it. Stunning, beautiful and devastating. And well, here I go crying again. Thank you for the reaction, Angela. It's such a joy watching things with you.

You know, there WERE two seasons of HtTYD that were set up essentially "between" HtTYD 1 and 2, then between 3 and 4. There have also been a couple of "shorts," although I've seen them on TV (cable) as they were aired after and along with each movie and yet could never find them on DVD. These shorts might have been special DVD extras that maybe only some DVD's had and maybe that's why I never found them, except when each movie aired on TV. They were only 15 minute shorts and ran concurrent at the end of each movie.

I don't know whose eyes might fall on this note, but I hope you have a chance to read it. For most of the course of my life I've had to suppress emotions to be an effective leader. After fourteen years in the military, it became too easy a habit. I've had many barriers between myself & family, friends & loved ones as a result of being too distant & unattached. It had become difficult for me to access & express those parts of myself even while they swirled within me. Even now, I'm very uncomfortable talking about this but it's important that I share this with you. I've been watching your reaction videos for most of a year now & have been deeply affected by your honesty & open expression while watching some of my favourite movies & shows (Firefly will always be Top Tier in my book). Experiencing these films again while sharing the impact they bring has been a tidal shift of how I share my thoughts & feelings. Being honest, open & vulnerable is scary as anything I can imagine,but through your sharing, I've been able to be more "complete" in my relationships & interactions. I'd no idea how I'd been missing out on so much in my life by struggling to maintain self control & poise. The change over the last several months has been commented upon n many times. I wanted to thank you for the change you've helped me make in my life. Too many times we hear of what's gone wrong rather than what's gone right. I love your energy, enthusiasm & insight but mostly the vulnerability that you share with us. You have more impact that you may realize & I'm in your debt. Keep all these good things coming!!

This is definitely a comfort series of movies.the sort of movies you can watch time and time again. I personally found the third one here the weakest of the trilogy, but dear gods its still amazing. So Angela, even though its over, you always get to rewatch and catch things you might have missed from the first watch. Also there are all the short movies that fill in some of the gaps between the movies, and the tv series which also fill thing on between. And heres a tidbit that should tickle you... I believe the animators took to calling Toothless and the Light Fury's offspring "Nightlights".

When the tag line to Dragons 3 was, "there were once Dragons" just those words broke my heart to how the 3rd film was going to end, This was not the strongest of the 3 films for me (although the animation is so good), but mostly because of the villain, the bad guy from the 2nd film was so much better character wise, and the villain kind of let me down for the 3rd film, end of the day though the trilogy is still one of my favorite animated sagas of all time, and im very excited to see what director Dean DeBlois does when he starts to shoot his live action How to train your dragon in the coming year! thanks for the reaction once again. John Powell is set to score the live action film, and im completely at ease knowing we will be getting more beautiful Dragons score in the future.

The short version of what I’m trying to say: TL;DR: The first tv show in this franchise (Riders/Defenders Of Berk to Race To The Edge) as well as all the short films are really good and I would really like it if you would react to them or at least watch it on your own time if you’re not gonna react to it on camera. I would really like to see more creators reacting to this show. The long version: This franchise has 3 movies and 3 different tv series’s as well as 2 Christmas themed short films, two non-Christmas short films and one short film that basically looks like a tv show episode. And while the two newer tv series’s are trash I would (depending on how much you enjoyed the movie/s) „highly“ recommend you to check all of the 5 seasons of the original tv series (Dragons: Riders Of Berk Season 1, Dragons: Defenders Of Berk Season 2 and Dragons: Race To The Edge Season 3 to 5 (RTTE has it’s own season count of season 1 to 6 since it’s much bigger than riders and defenders.)) as well as the short films preferably (for us) on KZbin and/or Patreön but if you don’t want to at least alone off cam because even though there isn’t that many people who watched the tv show after the movie/s it’s really good! Though my guess to why so many people never watched it is probably because they think it’s for children and for children only even though it’s for about the same audience as the movies. In my personal opinion I would rank Dragons: Race To The Edge at about the same height as the first movie if not even higher and then Defenders, then Riders, then the first Christmas short film, than the sequel and then the other short films and then the threequel. Though opinions may differ. Also RTTE really picks up after season 1 of RTTE. And Dragons: Rescue Riders is a kids show and Dragons: The Nine Realms is so bad that you can’t even tell who the intended audience is because unless you’re a braindead 4 year old you’ll probably stop watching after the first episode because of how poorly written, designed and animated everything is. I think almost everyone ranks Rescue Riders and 9 Realms at the bottom of their tier list. Though I personally would really REALLY like seeing more people reacting to at least D:RTTE if nothing else since there is so many reactions to the movies but so little reactions to the tv series. Of course each individual episode isn’t as high quality as the movies because obviously they needed to pump out more episodes in a shorter amount of time compared to the movies where they had more time to produce an over an hour long movie. But the story, plot, narrative, characters and music are all still really good in the tv series. Also Fishlegs, Sir Snotsalot and The Nuts are all relevant main characters in the series. You also learn how the All the vikings learn to integrate dragons into their society and how for example Hiccup gets is flight suit or his flame sword. The only thing that tanked more heavily is the quality of the visuals but it gets much better in RTTE and it’s never so bad you can’t watch it. It’s still really good. It’s just much much worse compared to the movies. The tv show has over 100 episodes that are all over 20 minutes long. Also the show has really good villains and they get better every time they introduce a new one. And the villains from the show are much much better than the ones in the movies. In summary, The movies have beautiful animations and scenery while the tv shows have much better character writing and world building. I probably will or already have reused this comment under other newer HTTYD reactions in hopes of getting someone to start a reaction series for the Dragons tv series wich is why I put so much effort into writing it. Also I don’t know how to make this comment shorter while still being able to make my point. I would enjoy you (or anyone) reacting to the tv series but if ya don’t then that’s your choice. I can’t blame you. I can only give it my best shot to convince you or anyone who’s reading this to give it a shot but if ya don’t then ya don’t it ain‘t the biggest deal in the whole world.

If you can't give them up there is the tv series which is set after the first movie. I enjoyed watching these with my nieces - some different voice actors but still more of the gang and their dragons, and lets face it we all need more toothless and hiccup.

The trilogy is one of the rare cases where the quality doesn't diminish, each movie is amazing, heartfelt, funny and has a good story to tell but above all Toothless and Hiccup are one of the best pairs ever to appear in movies. I love these movies.

It's this and Lord of the Rings for me. I can't think of any other movie series that gets me emotional with every single installment.

Each of them have strengths and weaknesses, where there can be a case made for any of them to be someone's favorite. Number one is the best in terms of filmmaking, character development, and script; Number 2 is my personal favorite, with the best character design, villain, and emotional moments. Number 3 is the most visually stunning, highest quality animation (partially from advancing technology), and the best ending/epilogue.

Now you get to watch the shorts like Gift of the Night Fury, and Dawn of the dragon racers which fill in some of the gaps between the movies. It will still hit you in the feels even knowing how it all wraps up.

In the second film, the baddie was a parallel of Stoick if he didn't let go of his hatred, here, the baddie is a parallel of Hiccup if he killed Toothless instead of letting him go.
