I've had 3 PoMeranian. One at a time, for a total of 39 years. My 3rd passed 3 yrs ago and I haven't gotten another .... yet. 🐶❤

I adopted my young Pomeranian from the animal shelter. She was found as a stray running around with a shock collar. I realized that the first thing that I needed to do was teach her not to bark incessantly. I used methods similar to the video, such as removing her view outside and saying "no barking, quiet" but I have my own methods as well: I put up a barrier so that she can't be right up to the outside gate where she can tell people are walking by, getting her attention by gasping and covering my ears when she's barking to show her it hurts my ears, verbally praising her when we are walking and she does not bark at other dogs, reassuring her that when we hear normal noises in the backyard that it is just the neighbors. Poms are sensitive to the ones they are bonded to...so training comes down to communication. She is really tuned in to me so sometimes it just takes "a look" from me that she does not need to be barking and she understands so that I don't even have to use a verbal command.

She ran away from previous probably because of the shock collar ... I believe it was fate & timing that brought you together. 🐶❤

I am glad that you training her amazing! I tried training my pomeranian we take her when he was 1 years old but we found out that he hate his owner because my dog was scared his owner and lied that he scared of cars, but he was love me the most and he started bark at my family members he saw then everyday but he just bark a lot all the time when he saw family members, I tried training to him that their are good people and won't hurt him, I tried everything but he still bark, I don't know exactly what happened with his owner maybe he scared of adults or maybe his owner abused him.

I could keep my PoM quiet while I was at home and with her but I bought a sound sleep machine that plays beach waves, birds, crickets, wind blowing and various nursery rhyme music only ( no words spoken ) and I turn that on for her when I'm gone or not with her and it seemed to help keep her calm and quiet.

I will try these suggestions though I have already used most of them but I was wondering g if one of those Bark-B-Gone devices work or harm a small dog? Love these suggestions but this is the 3rd Pom I have owned and have never had a Pom that was truly this hard to break of barking. I believe she is afraid more then anything. I can’t seem to remove her fear. Extremely difficult dog to train. Suggestions from all would be appreciated .
@johannaappleforest74822 жыл бұрын
Same with mine. She’s aggressive to strangers. I think it’s out of fear and to protect me her owner but I can’t even have guests anymore. She’ll bark herself to death nonstop. She will never ever ever ever ever ever ever stop. Even petting her and holding her and having strangers do it doesn’t completely stop it because she’ll do it again after a while. Idk what to do anymore. I can’t have a dog that will just bully all my guests. She’s attached to me at the hip and cries when I’m IN THE BATHROOM nonetheless out of the house!!!! So getting rid of her would hurt my heart because she loves me more than anything. She follows me everywhere and kisses me and does tricks etc. even if I leave her with my dad she’ll still cry and look for me. I don’t want my baby girl sad getting rid of her to another person but I just need advice. I can lock her up when guests come but I’ll be sad that she’s crying in her kennel. I mean it’s better than nothing tho I dunno.

Hi my poms are so quiet until they see people walking outside past the house , so I figure it is a source of entertainment but if left on there their own it’s too much so I think I will use it as a treat looking out the window and close the curtains so it doesn’t upset the neighbours.
@Milopii_hehe Жыл бұрын
When my pom barks I just leave it for atleast 5 minutes if he doesn't stop then I'll leVe it for 2 minutes or until it stops barking then give him a treat or some kible, It always works within the first 4 minutes of him barking but that was when he was s a puppy now he's a adult and knows the quite command but he also sometimes doesn't obey the command so if he doesn't I do it another time and if he still doesn't stop I just use the old way by leaving him with his toys and dog plushy or just one of his favorite toys, For new owners I recommend trying to find the trigger then give him something to calm down like a dog bone or something to release its stress but its also easier using the quite command rather than waiting so it's better to train your dog when it's still a pup

My Pomeranian became regime leader over our Banana Republic - There was a breakdown of law and order. Always barking if she felt the food was taking too long to cook or if weren't feeding them their share of dinner. She was funny though. We had one Boy who was mixed Pom and a Girl Peke. The Girl Peke was docile and calm and wouid occasionally bark but when the Girl Pom tried to start shit, the Peke would stand her ground. The Boy wanted nothing to do with their fights and climb onto the sofa . The household managed to function nonetheless 🤣

@PoM-MoM3 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely teach an older dog new tricks using food treats just be patient and use tiny treats or pieces of treats so as not to over feed your Pomeranian since they are older their digestion is slower too and too much fat% in treats is not good for the dog. Try a sleep sound machine for when you can't be with your Pomeranian to control their barking. They are very loyal to their 'parents' so consider yourself lucky that they alert you to unknowns and noises you may not hear at night.

Oh goodness lol. Here let me help. 1. Use an authoritative tone. 2. Step toward them when u use that tone. 3. Use a metal can with Pennie’s inside. EVERYTIME they bark, stand behind them quietly, then ambush them with the loud sound of coins in a metal can. They won’t like this sound and will start associating barking with the negative connection to the sound. Simple. You are the owner; the parent and it is your job to teach them. My in-laws infuriate me with their sheltie. She barks at everything; the trash being changed, then closing the blinds at night, and they make just as much noise EVERY TIME shouting her name back at her while doing nothing about it. Idk how ppl get this brainless about things. I just don’t.

I'll include a short excerpt to get you started, which also provides another source to check out. "Prominent Canadian wolf researcher David Mech offers a wonderfully in-depth look at the myth of the “alpha” even in wild wolf packs in his 2008 article “What Ever Happened to the Term Alpha Wolf?”. It turns out that the structure of wolf packs much more closely resembles human family units than the competing status seekers portrayed in the fictional stories of Jack London (Call of the Wild, White Fang)." When he barks ,fill up a sink with ice cold water,, pick him up by his back legs , and hold his head underwater until he twitches then pull him out when the twitching slows down.( As much as u might want to, u don't want to drown it) When u pull him out say " stop barking " . Keep doing that and when he starts barking " yell " Stop barking " and pick him up by his back legs. He'll remember the sink treatment and he'll IMMEDIATELY stop barking at the "stop barking " command. (If u have to to, give it another session at the sink for a reminder )
