Wow. I’ve been going back and fourth trying to decide between Showit & Squarespace. This adds A TON of extra work. In Showit you can just copy/paste a share key, similar to Canva templates. I think this + the complicated demo situation might be a deal breaker for me. 🥺

Yeah it's pretty crazy that there isn't just a simple template option 😅 but really it's not that bad once you get into the swing of things and especially if you can find someone to help you do deliveries when you get busier. But Showit is an awesome option too!

Yeah Showit is pretty awesome. But I hate how blogs, shops, memberships and courses are all managed outside of the platform making it hard for clients to manage if they want these things, and cost extra. Showit seems to be perfect if you don't want these things.

Thank you for this awesome video, it's so helpful! Just curious what automated checkout system do you use? I've been researching some like Mailchimp and Zapier but was wondering if you had any recommendations?

You're welcome! For a long time we used the built in Squarespace ecommerce checkout which worked well, but we current now use Ecwid for various reasons (wouldn't really recommend), but looking at going back to Squarespace. Zapier is definitely handy to connect checkout systems with automating things that need to happen after checkout, as many of the checkout systems fall short. But it depends what you need really! I would use Squarespace if that's what you're using for your website, just to keep things simple. We go over this in our course.

@@BigCatCreative Gotchya, thank you! Squarespace does seem like the best option since that is what I'm using but debating if I start selling my templates through Etsy or another site then maybe better to go with another option. Thanks for the response and I'll check out the course. :)

Hello! Do you have a video about what to do after transferring ownership of the squarespace design? Like domains changing, form testing, etc. Just wante to be extra for my customers!

When the customer purchases our template we have tutorials for them to work through about these things. So they hook up their domain and test their forms etc on their own. We include specifically those 2 things in our final launch checklist, and that is one of the last parts of our tutorials. Creating a "launch" checklist or something like that to work through so they can easily do those final things to launch their site is a good idea!

Do you include a note on your template checkout about the delivery time? Most digital products are instant delivery, so I'm wondering about that side of it-if you get complaints about templates not being delivered instantly?

Yes it's really important to set the expectation about exactly how long it will take (maximum) and make sure people understand that before they check out. Because Squarespace templates are a bit different than traditional templates or digital products, it's important to be very clear to the customer and make sure they understand these differences before they checkout, to avoid any issues or disappointment or surprises!

Hi! Loved your wonderful video, it really clarified a fews of my questions. However, I was wondering. If I have an account with my business website, plus 3 templates (websites), will Squarespace charge me for each one? From what I understood with my research, when you sell a template to your client, they select a plan and proceed with the payment, but while your template isn't sold, does Squarespace charge you for having more than 1 website, within the same account? How do you transfer ownership for custom font licenses within the template?

Unless you have an agreement/special license with the font designer, then I recommend not including the font but just including instructions for the customer to purchase their own license.

Hi there question! so if im selling an add-on page and transferring it to the customer - how do they add that template into they're current website? Currently when it transfers they transfer as a NEW site - they already have a Squarespace site they want to add this into

For this, you'll need to get into their site (have them add you as an admin) and then manually add the page to their site. We recommend the Squarespace Tools Pro extension for this, so you can easily copy a whole page over! Installing INTO someones website is more work, so make sure this is reflected in your prices. There's quite a lot of steps to this so we recommend systemizing and automating as much of it as possible!

Thankyou for this! I have a question if that's okay? If you are selling templates - does a duplicate have to be made each time? Or do you simply need to select "invite contributor" for each different client? Apologies if this is a silly question, I just wanna make sure I have it clear 😅

Yes you can stay as a contributor if that's what the owner of the website wants. They can remove you at anytime or you can remove yourself.

Would it affect anything the design/functionality if the person who bought the template immediately made a copy of the shared site so they became the sole owner instead of waiting for the designer to remove themself from the one they shared?

No it wouldn't, I actually recommend they do this to make a backup, but they wouldn't get the 6 month free trail if that is something you have

I can see that you make the templates on the trial mode. What happens if you create a template on a trial mode and the trial ends? Can you still sell the template?
