I dusted my quad skates off after 2 decades. I used to skate in high school every weekend, but prior to November, hadn't been on skates in decades. I have this odd skating style where I don't lift my skates, sometimes into the turns I'll do criss-crosses, but without lifting either leg. I never learned to skate backwards or dance. I decided to splurge on a set of Piper Lucky wheels at the pro shop as an incentive to learn. One of your videos on doing the Downtown caught my interest and I've been watching your videos for tips on things I'm trying to learn like proper crossovers and how to do the downtown. I've taken to wearing my skates at home and walking side to side on a rug, just to get a better feel for balance and weight transfer on my skates. I "cheat" when I do manuals and lift the front trucks on my front foot (usually the right foot) first, then barely raise the back tucks on the back skate off the ground. I'm going to have to practice this pop-up method you have here in your video. And some day I will learn to do the Downtown.

Lol I unlocked my heel toe manual today. I shocked myself. I was terrified that's why I never did it. It was so much easier than I thought. It was fear that was stopping me. But my goodness it hard on my knee. Will keep practicing , I was doing it inside on laminate floors. Thanks Miss Dirty 😂 I watched this 30 times before I tried it😅

Hi Debbie, I just started back roller skating about 5 months ago after a 15 year hiatus. I've been watching your videos religiously and they have been absolutely awesome for me. I'm 62 years old and I have to be careful and learn techniques all over again. Your step by step videos 1 thru 12 gave me the confidence I needed in order to get back out there. I have a question, What are the wheels you have on this video? I have a pair of 95A because I've skating in the past on very bad, slippery surfaces. At the skating rink I skate on now, the floor doesn't seem to be in that bad of shape. I watch all of your videos over and over again.

Hi Dirty. I'm living in Toronto Ontario and I've watched so many of your videos. I'm 75 and wanted to try skating again after over 40 years and many injuries. I was wondering if you knew of any place here in Toronto to buy skates that you recommend. I know you say sure grip fame is a good starter skate but is there a better one. I do have a plate and pins in my ankle so I think I will need some support and comfort padding. Any suggestions?

Hi Deborah just wanted to know if you can go more in depth with indoor wheels and outdoors wheels. I have my skates but they are outdoor wheels. I tried skating in my house but was sliding every which way. 😂😂 not a great idea fell once but I know outdoor wheels are slippery on the softer side? I think? Lol! Thank you so much for all your great tutorial videos ❤

You can, but you stand a higher chance of dragging the stopper which may cause you to lose balance. Plugs are the way.

Hey Dirty Debra, I watch all your videos and I am a sub. Love your teaching methods. My rink has a wooden floor and my wheels grip way too much. They are indoor wheels but not designed for wooden floors. What wheels do you use in your videos? The white wheels on this video. 🙏

Emmanuel, After a couple years of skating, I have realized wheels are a very personal choice. What one person loves, another can find unskatable. In addition to hardness (A or D scale), width, and height, the other major consideration is compound. And, honestly, urethane chemistry differs from company to company, if not line to line. In other words, your best bet is to borrow wheels from friends or your local rink, if possible, or even buy used wheels to help you narrow in on your favorite kind of wheel. What wheel are you using right now? What is the hardness?

Are soft cushy insoles a decent idea for skates or would that create too much slop between the foot and skate??

I sent you an email (2). I hope you are able to reply. Meanwhile, I want to say that I think you're a good instructor and an effective communicator. I've been watching your video history and what I don't see is anything addressing increased speed. ie. skating faster on rink, outdoors, or in a crowd of people. Your techniques are easy to grasp but what about a skater who has leveled up and is skating faster? Maybe a video on dealing with rink "traffic", quickly avoiding other skaters, (skating and someone falls in front of you or slower skater cuts into your path abruptly). I am a pretty diversified skater, or used to be. I've seen a lot of " OH, S#@T" moments happen while even at moderate speed. Mechanics are similar at all levels but applied technique sometimes changes. Just a thought. Keep up the great job.
