Travelling consciously may not always be the easiest path, but it all begins with that first step. Join journalist Hanako Montgomery as she embarks on a sustainable adventure in the heart of Japan's cultural gem, Kyoto!
In this journey, where travel merges with consciousness, we'll unveil the secrets of packing light to move swiftly, enabling you to explore with efficiency while leaving a lighter ecological footprint. And as we delve into the charming Machiyas, those traditional wooden townhouses, you'll catch a glimpse of Kyoto's profound heritage and enduring charm.
Welcome to "The VICE Guide To (Conscious) Travel," a series where in each episode, our hosts offer advice on how to embrace greener travel while offering a tantalizing peek into their own transformative journeys. It's not just about traveling; it's about having fun while treading lightly on our beautiful planet.
Due to errors introduced during editing, we’d like to make the following corrections:
@01:20 The full name of Hanako’s accommodation is ‘Masari-Gusa Machiya Residence Inn’.
@03:43 The name of the restaurant manager at Izusen is ‘Go-Taro Kimura’, not ‘Ko-Taro Kimura’.

Kyoto is my favorite city in Japan. I love tradition and I honor the old ways. I'm very excited that you chose this city for your exposé! People can have Tokyo any day; me? I'm a Kyoto boy. 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵

Yeah, but there’s a whole country out there: too many tourists head for Kyoto when there is lots more to see!

The best way to travel consciously is to walk. Zero carbon emissions! But seriously its ridiculous to blame the consumer when corporations are the real polluters. Not switching out your towels doesnt count as "eco freindly" how does that even make the cut???

Basically according to her only rich people should be allowed to travel. I wonder how she will offset the emitions the produced from getting on the plane

Vegetarian needs to be the name of plant based diets and vegan friendly diets... like in east asian countries. If you eat eggs and dairy and then plants that diet should just be called "pizza is a vegetable"

I love how it is controversial for me to criticize this video because if I was to say that, when I’m traveling I’m not worried about sustainability in another culture because as a tourist is makes no sense. Especially if im traveling to anywhere other than China or India ( the two nations responsible for the most pollution in the world) This will probably get me labeled as, “part of the problem” because I’m making a choice that is considered “irresponsible and hurtful to the planet” But I will make the argument that if you simply use a washer and dryer for your clothes then you have no right to say anything because it’s been proven that eliminating those reduces our carbon footprint the most

You call china and india as the two nations responsible for the most pollution in the world..wow....bro just pull up a pollution history graph of nations of the world for the last 200 years. You'll see Us and european nations in the top, china maybe in 7th place, ig this is what happens when you sell your brain, have 0 independent thought and wholeheartedly believe propoganda. 🙄 Ps. Use half a brain cell and tell me, if having pis poor infrastructure which forces people to drive everywhere or using a washer-dryer causes more pollution. 🙄 Pps. Im not saying china or india have never caused pollution....in the context you are referring you potray them as the nations which caused the most pollution to the world while the actual data says the contrary. Ig its just easy to blame others rather than taking accountability for your actions....so go on, be a 🐱 edit your comment and call me stupid 😂
