How did you make arrangement for shelters or to stay at the hut on the way to Salkantan trail?
@jamietrickett45277 ай бұрын
First option sounds great. I love hiking but hate paying crazy money for guides. My only question is can you buy a ticket the day before machu pichu? It's hard to know how long the hike will take before starting the journey

Hello! Thanks for this info, did you book any of the accomodation on the Salkantay trail prior to walking? I’m finding it difficult to research whether I can expect there to be enough places to stay along the way..
@RyanFila2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I did not book them in advance. It’s a bit riskier (depending on how busy the season) but it’s up to your comfort level on those types of decisions.

Why don’t you talk about cost? That’s super important.

Can you do a step by step video of how to get to Machu Picchu with trains/buses?

I won't be able to do one right now, but is train to bus the way you're planning to go?

Sorry you had to waste so much time on this video -- you do a good job with your videos on Peru -- but no one can go into the Sanctuary now through what I call "the back way" from the without going with an approved agency after the hidroelectrica checkpoint. That, of course, includes solo Salkantay trek hikers. This rule was announced in July and went into effect in August. The reason rumored was for safety which doesn't surprise me as I've seen tourists doing all kinds of stupid things along the tracks. I haven't been down that route in a few weeks so it's possible they're lenient on how they are enforcing the rule, but my friends in Aguas Calientes are telling me it's not possible. (I'll be back there in a week, though I probably won't make the hike to the hidroelectrica. I will check in at the office and ask about the rule.)

Here's a link explaining more of the new rule in English: andina.pe/ingles/noticia-peru-access-to-machu-picchu-via-amazon-route-available-through-authorized-travel-agencies-902691.aspx

OH NOOO!! Thank you for sending me the link and letting me know so much. I was really hoping to add a ton of value with this video for trekkers hiking there! 😢 Would you be able to update me when you go out there??
@theperuchannel2 жыл бұрын
@@RyanFila I will let you know. I was in Aguas Calientes when the announcement was made and it caught everyone off guard. It will have an effect on tourism because so many people go that way to save money. Things are pretty crazy there right now. There have been protests and train blockages because they want the government to do more to control tickets, but the problem is caused by dishonest agencies telling people they can buy their tickets when they get to Aguas Calientes when, in fact, they can't. There have been thousands of angry tourists in the past two weeks expecting to buy tickets that weren't available. Again, your videos are excellent. I live here and go to Machu Picchu many times a year so anything new about the place pops up in my feed and there's not much about MaPi that I haven't seen. That's how I saw your new video this afternoon (along with your others).

Some good news -- a couple of people have told me they went through the hidroelectrica checkpoint alone and didn't even know there was a supposed restriction. It looks like maybe it's not being enforced or perhaps was dropped/delayed as it was not going to be very popular. I'll still check at the main MaPi office when I get there in a few days. Hopefully all your great information will continue to be valid in the future. I did a video about the route from the hidroeletrica a couple of years ago and would like to pdate it as I've found more interesting things along the way since then.

@@theperuchannel Amazing! Thank you so much on actually following up and coming back to let me and others know what the current situation looks like. It really means a lot to me! Glad to know that this whole video isn't scrapped! haha Hopefully people can continue to get through there. If it changes I'd absolutely love if you could let me know! 😃

So no need to hire a tour guide after buying tickets? "Thats what they say online?"
@RyanFila Жыл бұрын
Nah, you can get them at the entrance. There are usually a ton of them standing outside.
@krazykara1327 Жыл бұрын
@RyanFila but you HAVE to or just if you WANT to? I guess it's like reality vs what's online. Thx!
