Even though there are hundreds of 360 flip tutorials out there, I'm throwing in my own advice. Also I asked on my Instagram what advice helped you the most when learning tre flips and what your most common problems are. Thanks for watching :)

So on point. People really exaggerate the emphasis on the back foot to the point where they ignore everything else. Just saw a guy at a skatepark trying them with 100% back foot because that's what everyone had told him. So he was basically popping impossibles and 360 shove-its. As soon as I suggested incorporating a bit of front foot flick, he was spinning them fine. Great video!

One of the best 360 flip trick tip videos I’ve seen 👍 Nothing is more frustrating than the trick tip videos that go “just pop, scoop the board, wait for it to spin around, land on it then roll away 😎” it’s like yeah I know but how lol
@dr.chip-inski5513
@dr.chip-inski5513 3 жыл бұрын
I’m actually so impressed with the amount of time you took to try and explain this trick. I LOVE this trick, but I also know the struggle. And watching all the repetitive tutorials on KZbin with no in depth detail just adds to the frustrating struggle...so I’m glad you made this for everyone because this is a great video and learning the trick is absolutely worth it. Just a few things I would like to add as useful tips: 1. Practice pop shove-its FOR THE LANDING. You will want to land treflips like you do with pop shovs, catching them in the air as well as making them look just as effortless. So pop shuvs are a nice way to imagine the catching and landing. 2. Practice Treflips STATIONARY first. There are so many factors to take into account, you don’t want speed and momentum to be another thing to worry about. Stationary tre will allow you to practice the flip first and the landing much quicker. 3. Practice on a smoother surface! When you are learning tres, you don’t want friction to be another factor hindering your scoop pop. TRUST ME, learn this trick on a nice surface... like a tennis court I guess lol. 4. BE PATIENT- the reason why this trick may take a long time is because your body and mind are trying to synchronize the timing of the back foot scoop with the front foot flick as well as EVERYTHING ELSE that comes along with this trick... that’s why some people can do this trick with their front foot super back or super forward on the board because THEY GOT THE TECHNIQUE DOWN. It is synchronized. But one thing that is non negotiable, you need to hang those toes off the board on your back foot. It needs to feel like your toes are gripping the side. So like if you were barefoot, you could curl your toes on the side and bottom part of the board (referring to your back foot). That curling sensation is what preps the scoop of the board that ensures the flick of the front foot will be good enough so that the board doesn’t under rotate. Haley explains this really well in this video. And that’s why the front foot is important, but the back foot preps the angle of the scoop FOR THE FLICK of the front foot. 5. Probably THE MOST important tip. Once you land your first tre, IMMEDIATELY DO IT AGAIN! I know you will be excited and you will want to run off and celebrate, but trust me. DO THEM AGAIN... AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. Create and establish that muscle memory and that muscle mind connection ASAP because you will lose the synchronicity if you just land it once. When I landed my first tre, I was able to land it 2 more times in a row right after I landed the first one. 2 to make it True. It’s obviously important to keep practicing the trick, but remember to practice SMART. I think these tips will help you do that. It will make it less Painful and more bearable. Good luck and thanks again Haley

The “lean back” towards your heels is to offset the need to jump forward too much. You lean back and right as the board turns heel side you shift your weight to lean forward (toe side) and pop . You’ll notice almost everyone does this who has a more experience 360 flip as it makes it much easier to get your weight right and the board to come around correctly without over turning.
@ezedjay
@ezedjay 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Haley :) Someone really needed to stand up and dispute the "front foot does nothing" claims. I cringe watching slo mo videos where you can clearly see the front foot tipping the board flip in the correct direction and the commentary is all "see the front foot does nothing".......I did tre flips in the 90's on 9.5 boards - the scoop and flick was a lot of effort on them boards - it was very obvious the front foot was doing something. Popsicles spin and flip easier so it looks like less front foot but there's less back foot needed too on modern boards so it's all relative.
@HaleyIsaak
@HaleyIsaak 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think most problems from underflipping the board stem from incorrect back foot positioning but that doesn’t mean the front foot does nothing

@HaleyIsaak
@HaleyIsaak 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I noticed that too, still trying to build back up the muscles in my legs for tre flips bc I haven’t done them in awhile. But if you get a proper, powerful scoop the board should stay pretty much directly under you. Also I would be more focused on trying to keep the board under you rather than overcompensate by jumping too far forward.

I think you dissect the 3flip like no other tutorial not only the steps but also how does it feels like doing the trick. Props to you. The only question I have is about how loose or tight the trucks should be? What is the best way if you want a quick 3flip. Because I notice your back truck is kind of loose and I wonder if tight truck would make the trick hard to land for beginners.
@HaleyIsaak
@HaleyIsaak 3 жыл бұрын
People do tre flips with lose and tight trucks, it’s whatever you feel comfortable skating on. BUT when I was first learning this trick I had my trucks on the tighter side, and over time I loosened them up.

I was trying treflips for like a week until I landed my first one. All I did was try to learn 360 shuvs and you don't even need to land them. That is the easiest way to get the scoop down period. Once you get the feeling, its pretty easy to get it to flip but you just got to tweak it a bit. As for the learning the 360 shuv, I was using the wheel stopper things so I wouldn't roll around which really boosted my confidence as well.

The tre flip is based off an ollie impossible, generally done by the same mechanics just without allowing the board to wrap around the back foot. Obviously, this only applies to back foot ollie impossibles and not front foot impossibles. Additionally, this is a impossible without the ollie. You are pure pressure flipping it and sucking up both knees to allow the flip. Jamie Griffin actually ollies his tre flips and doesn't allow his toes over the edge of the board. Jason Lee never did his with the toes hanging over either and he popularize the flip; even though Rodney Mullen invented it, in the late 80s and early 90s.
