Doc, thanks for this. The saddest thing is unfortunately that there's so many other doctors that don't even begin to explain the basics you mentioned. I'm struggling with a family member at the moment and it's so frustrating that a great deal was avoidable with their injury. Here is my gripe, doctors know all about these case studies but they just can't be bothered to mention it to patients. that's the difference between having passion for your vocation and not.

I am 58 years old and have been a Type 2 diabetic for about 10 years. I have had a long, ongoing struggle with chronic ulcers(one on each foot). I have a great, well informed Podiatrist. To be truthful I have been my worst enemy by not keeping my blood sugars and A1C controlled. Surprisingly, my weight while not skinny is in the healthy BMI zone but I certainly wouldn’t be sad if I could lose another 20lbs(9.07kg). I also am a smoker 😞. I do have moderately good circulation to both feet. Coming across your video is so timely. I saw my PCP today and had a serious discussion about getting my blood sugar in control thru behavioral therapy and then to address my “smoking issue”. She doesn’t want me too cranky all at once I guess 🤷🏻♀️. I am going to call my wound Doctor tomorrow and schedule an appointment to discuss getting MUCH more proactive about offloading pressure from these wounds whether it be with a boot 🤞 or casting. It is time to get this situation under control after having one of these wounds in various stages of healing/decompensation for almost 5 YEARS!!! It is time to improve my overall state of health. You have pointed me in the correct direction to have a good discussion with my MD and what some of the important questions are to ask. Sorry this was so long but I am feeling a sense of hope that we can get these wounds healed. Thank You so much Doctor for your informational video. I look forward to watching others.

This is one of the best videos about diabetic foot ulcers. I am diabetic. I'm sending your video to my new PCP and hope it will help her treat my foot. I have neuropathy in my feet but I also have tiny bug-like things, dust mites or carpet mites that are feeding on my feet because my skin is so sweet. Why can't the doctors see that and also treat the tiny microscopic bugs that are causing us so much pain? We need protection from that too. I can only hope and pray that you doctors will realize this and come up with an ointment that will kill the little critters and a medicine that will make our blood not taste so sweet to them. Thanks for your video and for caring. Let me know if what I'm writing about makes sense.

Thanks so very much. My Mom is a type II Diabetic. She has toe fungus on her large right toe. I took her to the Pediatrist for treatment. As a treatment for the fungus he began doing monthly toe nails clippings. The large to developed pressure point, the toe is not ulcerated. I am working hard to reduce any pressure on her foot in addition to foot massages. The boot would be an excellent help.

He had some one give him super strength Manuka honey, 1,300 strength. $65 for a small jar. He ate some but he plastered it on his foot which in 4 days started healing. He's walking an hour or more daily, eating more properly and has lost a little bit of weight. Quite the wake up call

I ignored my health and I’m freaking because it’s finally at the point where I have to go into the hospital. I’m really scared. I can’t even get blood withdrawn without fainting and puking... now I’m risking foot amputations !? Goddamnit. Why didn’t I listen. Not only that but the us medical system/doctors are really dumb when it comes to opioids and people who are physically dependent on them. Since 2012 I been on them & methadone raises my tolerance a lot a few years ago because I was forced into it. And then I switched to street oxycodone or any street illicit opioids. But I kept my tolerance as low as I can and have a regimented schedule... I’m worried if I have to be hospitalized if they’re not going to let me take my daily meds... or not give me what I literally need to be okay... and if I get surgery too... I already know they’re gonna be assholes and I’ll be in such horrid pain with not enough medicine for it. It’s bad enough as it is. But they just have to add salt in the wound. My feet hurt and tingle and are so inflamed it is scary so I have no damn choice. Wish me luck I guess, internet

Please use the information, its awful to hear all around the world that every 15 minutes that someone loses their feet to diabetes. Be in control of your life , control your blood sugars. Monitor your feet. Do not self treat yourself please. Keep your foot well moisture, dry between your toes. Visit your podiatrists often to help take care of your ankle and foot disorders. Callouses, hard nails, inner foot soles. This is just to name a few. Eat healthy, stop smoking, stop walking around with no shoes.

2 years later and they took my toe I have had a back fracture and have very severe spinal stenosis with nerve pain. Not diabetic but still painful nerve damage and tight muscles with atrophy Losing my great toe causes me to be off balance and causes uneven pressure. Other area of my foot are overcompensating for my right great toe loss And my L4-L5 were crushed and herniated discs. Range of motion is limited and painful tight from tailbone down to toes This can all happen to u as well if you are like me. I’m young too! Just severe spinal cord injury and spinal stenosis disease that is my spine getting very narrow and crushing my nerves. Leading to pain and its almost comical how neuropathy cause numbness but we still feel that horrific pain I like this pediatrist , hes being very helpful and very honest. Not judgmental. Pls don’t lose ur feet and legs. Take his advice bc you can lose so much more than a right great toe like me. My surgery has been postponed to start decompression of my spinal stenosis bc of too many complications Its everything and its ur life too. Check ur feet daily. If u can soak ur feet Thats so great! Definitely do that. Keep ur skin on ur feet soft and flexible and you’ll have much healthier skin and it wont crack open and start an ulcer ❤❤❤

I'm soo scared.. I woke up one day to a bunionette or tailor's bunion on my right foot pinky toe side..I was like what in the world? Bunions are for old ladies!! Then a few days later it looked dark/black and a sore was there!!! Now I have an ulcer I guess..a yellow callus looking area on my foot and I took a new razor blade and cleaned up any dead skin and it smelled DEAD!!! GROSS!! OMG this came off my body? Crap! I'm in trouble! I knew I had unmanaged diabetes type 2 high blood sugar but never a sore! No insurance either! I remember that as a kid my parents used Iodex or black salve for wounds and it worked wonders so I mixed my own as they dont sell it in stores now only online. I mixed Vaseline with iodine..It seemed to help some but last night I did it and woke up to a foul smelling wound that was more wet..Maybe I will try those Iodine bandages with iodine beads that open to release iodine when they come in contact with wetness such as puss...I can't just go to the ER and rack up a $$$ bill!!! It's not free care to just show up!!! ugh this really sucks!!
