Actually, the Dutch rolling / trilling 'r' is not the standard anymore. The Dutch in the western part of the Netherlands (and students) pronounce the 'r' as something that's hardly recognisable as an 'r' anymore. Listen to 'kinderen voor Kinderen 6 - Ochtendhumeur' here on you tube. Some Dutch find this regional 'slang' snooty. In Limburg (regional dialect) they also don't use a rolling 'r' but one that sounds German. (The Germans use a trilling 'r' but most of the time the 'r' somehow fades as for example 'mutter' which is comparable with the English 'mother'. The 'r' is actually not pronounced: Mothae'.) Example of the language in Limburg is on 'jippe vertelt - Limburgs dialect'.

Tips from my learning experience : STEP 1: First place your tongue completely touching the 'alveolar ridge' and back of the teeth then try to pronounce the sound "zzz..." With vibration like immitating the buzzing sound of bee. (This step is to make your tongue edge relaxed and feel the vibration which helps to flapping the tongue) STEP 2: After that immediately place only your tip of your tongue with flat tongue then try to flap the tip of the tongue only and make the sound "trrrr" like immitating roaring bike engine which helps to flap your edge of the tongue. STEP 3: If you getting used to flapping the edge of your tongue , then proceed to make ' رَ' sound which is slightly similar when you pronounce the word 'Draw". From there try to perfect the ' رَ'sound. Hope it helps! In shaa Allah :)

السلام عليكم May Allah reward you and increase you in your knowledge. I hope you accept this critique. The Arabic “ر” does not flap with air. Every Tajweed rule tells you what to do, expect one rule called “تكرير” which specifically tells you not to “roll” or “flap” the ر. Also in your ads you have women who are half naked working out. It would be best if you changed these ads. جزاك الله خيرا.

Wa alikom asslam brother/ sister, Please let me know which ad that is so that I can block it. Thanks for your feedback. And the sound when flapping seems a bit like a "trr" rather than a "r". It's difficult for me to use it in a word.

This is actually a Great start!!! This IS how you should learn it. Gradually. Once you have the "trrr" hold onto that and start practicing words from your mother tongue that have this combination. Example, say "TRRRee" , "TRRRAIN" and so on, till you feel you got hold of this combination. and step by step, you'll be able to separate them from one another. Never forget that you tongue is a muscle. When you go to the gym, are you going for that 100 lbs dumbbell first thing? Of course not. you should train that muscle step by step. So be patient, and keep doing your best, and I'll try to guide you along the way as much as I can in shaa Allah.

Take perro. Where is my tongue for the p? If I say just p, the tip is downward. So, then, after the p, does the tongue tip immediately flip to the the alveolar ridge? For rr, is my tongue tip already at the ridge for the initial very beginning vowel sound of rr? Don't you have to have some "plosive" of air to initiate the tongue vibration? How do I generate the air column needed to vibrate the tongue for rr? There's no plosive. Is it a vowel grunt? Upside down e? How many times does the tongue tip vibrate against the ridge for each rr sound? I remember my old Spanish teacher in HS back in late 50's rolling an rr sound for about 15 seconds, just for a demonstration. My 84 year old brother can make his tongue sound like a tommy gun, dit, dit, dit, dit very fast. So can my ex-wife. I can make dit,dit, dit, but not fast and my tongue has to do it. Not an air column, if you know what I mean. I've been trying on and off for a year or more. Seems to be getting better, but I'm still not sure I'm on the right track.

@Arabic101 Жыл бұрын
Pronouncing R from the throat will be like the French, Dutch or German /r/ .. that's a completely different sound, and it is one that is not used in Arabic at all. Your tip of the tongue should not actually be pressing, but rather loosely touching the alveolar ridge, so that air can push the tongue and pass through, creating the flapping and this the sound.
