This video is all about how to troll for walleyes. I talk about how I like to run the boat, the rods and reels I use and the planer boards. I give out a lot of information in my videos and I want to mix up some of the hardcore information with some basic info on how to get started. If you are new to trolling this video should provide some useful info. We are fishing spring walleyes in the Green Bay Area and the bite is good. Thanks for watching!

I'm digging your videos! I just bought a flycraft stealth x, and panoptix/perspective mounts to try to help me find walleye in our deep-water mountain lakes here in western north carolina! I usually do fly fishing here in the mountains on my channel, but will be switching up to light tackle for videos in the spring and summer. I don't think we get the walleye quite like how you guys get them up there! (And our lakes seem to be a bit different than yours due to the geography.) But I'm still watching how it's done, and throwing likes on your stuff! Thanks for the knowledge! Please keep it up!

If you end up finding walleye in NC, that's something an upstate NY guy like me would love to hear about. I had always thought they couldn't be found in those warmer climates but I guess higher elevations work.. Good luck my friend, tight lines!

Tom. Love your videos. New to walleye fishing. I live on and fish a shallow (7-8 feet) essentially structureless plate lake in southern MN. It produces a good number of walleye. What would be your suggestion as the best way to fish a lake like that? I do a lot of trolling because of the lack of structure and it basically seems like it just luck of the draw weather or not I troll through some good groups of fish because they are just out cruising all the time. How can I find fish more consistently?

oh and btw i love your vidoes. I do a lot of walleye fishing in the fall and do all the trolling, jigging, ect but unfortunately my lakes have been fished out especially the one that is hidden and difficult to get to. However finally this year they implemented a walleye limit so hopefully that will help with population

Another excellent presentation, but y'alls were so busy catching fish it took a while to get to the tips. One does not absolutely *need* line counters to get line out, and can go by level wind passes by letting out line at home and seeing how many feet per pass. Say you go 6 passes and have 55 feet out, that's very close to 9ft per pass (which is about typical for reels I use). Rounding to the half foot per pass for math purposes is fine, because that will get you within about 3% for a typical reel, well within the necessary accuracy.

I fish this inland lake that has giant walleye 7 to 15lbs, that are deep and suspended feeding on herring in a lake trout type lake in Canada... Anyhow, I could always mark huge amounts, but never catch one, until I figured out the secret. Fast trolling up 3 mph, of course in warmer water than now. The speed triggers them.

Big fan of the information videos! How do you deal with planner boards running over your other lines when you’re reeling in a fish and it doesn’t pull the board back far enough? I seem to get a mess every time I bring in my furthest board. Thanks!

Alot of times I try to dictate how the board comes In. I will either wait til the fish pulls the board back in or shorten up my inside lines. Obviously it helps when the fish are big. I get tangled plenty too...so dont feel back

Kevin Gervais different body’s of water have different season openers, typically rivers will be open all year when inland lakes will follow the first Saturday of may rule in Wisconsin.

I have always twisted my line and then clamped so that they snap out when i give them a tug. My question is how do you keep your lines from tangling up when say the middle board drops back and you have to reel that fish in through the others. And also how do you put it back into position without it crossing the lines of the others. Also, where did you get the lights. They are bad ass.
@bradnoah9240
@bradnoah9240 4 жыл бұрын
If the fish is of any size, it will pull the board back and swing in behind the boat. Or use your method of snapping the rod tip to get the front clip to release, this will make the board fall in behind the boat. As far as resetting, if you're running all the same baits and line length behind the boards, simply move your inside board to the middle. Or if you let the board just lay behind the boat and let out line until you reach the length between the boat and board you had out before, it will swing back into the middle position. I usually run the shortest or deepest running line on the inside which helps the middle and outside line crossover without tangling.

You like mono, in what lb test. What lb test do you use to achieve the proper depths? Can't wait for the opener, I got to wait till the 25th. I can cast off the pier but there are to many people and with the covid situation I'm afraid they will close more fishing spots. They closed Tippy Damn due to the people not social distancing. Anyway fish on have fun keep the good stuff coming.

Just wondering if you or anyone on this channel has tried the Piscifun honor XT. I noticed it has the same 10+1 bearings and same gear ratio. I don't see a difference between it and the Carbon x and it's 20 dollars less. Any tips would be appreciated. Reel is gonna be used on a live bait jigging rod.

Your boards don’t release the front clip? So I take it you don’t mind fighting the board in every time with the fish? I prefer offshores so you can pop the front clip free

@TheSlyFuu
@TheSlyFuu 4 жыл бұрын
Your dads right, you never want to grab a fish by their gills. What they're doing is grabbing underneath the gill cover and doing what is called a "gill plate grab". It's a good way to control bigger toothier fish from thrashing around by controlling the head of the fish.
