I am learning sooo much from you! The old adage that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" (I'm 73) just isn't true! I fish Fort Peck, Sakakawea, Devils Lake, Canyon Ferry and a few Lakes in Minnesota! You are one of my go-to guys for training! Thanks a bunch!

Great video! I would like to see you do a whole in depth series on trolling. Like basics including setting up a bigger spread i.e. 6 planer boards. How far to set each rod out before and after the boards to get a good spread. Bait selections. Clearing lines out of the way to fight fish. Different baits( cranks, spinners, lead core). Speed ranges for each. The possibilies are endless. I know you cover most of this in different videos. Bu putting them together in a series would be great! -boley 4 prez

I just got back from Canada last night after spending 9 days up there. I mostly trolled, but would have liked to try your techniques such as finding walleyes in deeper water. I can catch more fish trolling the rock shorelines in 7 to 15 feet of water than out in 40 feet (but don't catch the 30 inchers). Great video! Thanks Tom!

More great content!...and in this one there was a ton of it on a multitude of different topics. What I personally love about a channel like this is even though I live on a 500 acre lake in Indiana, which is certainly different than the lakes in Wisconsin or Minnesota, I can take these same tips and tricks and tweak them again and again until the basic concept starts paying off. I love that process! Thanks for pointing me in the right directions Tom!!

Headed back out to my spot today. 3 big plumpers. 20 to 24". All in 40 feet of water. Goes from 30 to 50 feet in no time. You can see it's layered rock on sonar. Smaller ones too. 10 to 17 inch in shallow portion. Thank you so much for your videos Tom! This is a structure that has even 80 foot depth between it and shoreline is like 200 feet away and is like a wall that drops. The Ottawa river is really special.

Just wanted to say great video! The information that you shared is severely underrated in the fishing industry! Some other tips on trolling for those of us who may not have that kicker and have an older 1980s 2 smoke 80hp (this guy here) is to use a drift sock to slow the boat down when trolling, or I simply put the trolling motor in the water to be used as resistance to slow the boat down about .4 mph sometimes.

Hey Tom, I make my own two hook crawler harnesses. Mainly used with a bottom bouncer but, we'll use it in a lot of different formats also. Usually about 2, 2& 1/2 ft mono leader, two hooks, anywhere from 5 to 8 beads, with the awesome spinner blades that are out there now. (Damn, the plades out there right now are freaking sick. Totally awesome). I should say, the beads and hooks are legit too! Anyways, fish Michigan waters mainly. I have a trip in late May, planned 😅for the UP. Any suggestions? I kayak and can fish 1 rod at once and have a basic 4inch Garmin. if you could only troll a single lure at a time what would you troll in the morning and in the evening in deep water and in shallow water? Do you have any videos that go into what to look for on your fish finder. I fish a bay that is 70 feet deep in the middle and in 70 feet i mark fish from the very bottom all the way up to the top. I dont really know how to read which are walleye, which are perch, etc. How to tell perch from walleye would be great.

Can you demonstrate how to vent a walleye?
@johnk9624
@johnk9624 3 жыл бұрын
Venting is not really recommended by biologists. It's probably better to weight them and get them back down fast. Venting pokes a hole that can lead to infection or death if it's in the wrong spot. It also doesn't get rid of other air in their organs and increases time out of the water. Both options can help a fish survive but there is no guarantee. The best option, don't catch and release in deep water.

Great video details on trolling walleyes! Thanks to you, Monday I'm heading to Leech Lake for 4 days. Have a heavier 7ft rod with line counter reel and lead core line. Any point in using a planer board with MN 1 rod rules? Your Leech Lake video fishing humps was a great way to fish a new lake. Never much luck with crank baits so will use Lindy Rigs, 3/8 oz gold & silver jigs and Kalin swim baits. Anything else you would recommend?

Was marking BIG fish cruising 20 feet off the bottom at 80 feet - no lake trout in the lake so I'm guessing they are pike, will try gang-trolls off of downriggers for them. Cheers!
