Randomly looking for good troubleshooting videos and I found this channel. Sadly, some are saying that the creator passed away. According to the comments, he leaves behind children, which is really sad. What is fantastic is that he lives on with this channel and I hope his children get to see their father as often as they would like through his videos. He can educate them from beyond the grave and that is admirable. Rest in peace and know that taking the time to post these videos helps others and let's you educate & help your children in the future. 😊

Great info! I think electric stoves are crap and gas is the way to go unfortunately that's not a choice we all can control. I had a burner that stopped working, this before finding your video. I opened the the burner top and looked at the non working burner and right off the bat I noticed a wire had separated from the crimp connector! I restored that connection and my burner now works! With this video instruction, I would have read open on the meter when checking the element! Thanks for the simplicity of this video I will recommend it to anyone that needs to troubleshoot an electric range. Thanks again!

My glass top stove element front left seems to have 1 temperature setting - HIGH. I think from watching your videos, this may mean it's the switch needing to be changed out. I'm not sure though because the two videos I've watched seem to deal with elements that won't don't turn on... Mine is turning on... way on... no matter what temp or whether it's on the single or double burner side. I have a friend I think with me holding things, stuff at my age I can do, he can change it be it switch or burner. Looking for appliance book to find part numbers and such... It's a Kenmore bought in 2017 to replace our stove after our home was flooded in 2016. Advice? Help me please. Sigh... RIP Mr. Newberry. Sympathy to Mr. Newberry's family. The best way to determine if the switch or burner is bad is to test them with a meter. 1. Verify 240V input to the switch (top red and black wires). 2. With switch ON, verify 240V output from switch (pair of same color wires; different for each switch). If the above tests good, then the burner is bad. You can verify that by checking continuity to the burner using an ohm meter. Do that by removing 1 or both output wires from the switch and checking continuity between these output wires. If no continuity, then either the heating element is bad, or the limiter (on the burner assembly) in series with the heating element, is bad. Either way, you need a new burner assembly. Would be nice if your video showed these steps.

Thanks for this excellent video. As for Samsung ranges, they are garbage, it seems. With mine I had switches going faulty one after the other just after the first year. When I decided to replace the switches after they are all consumed, I was surprised to see that the 4 switches cost almost half the price of a new range. This time I'm thinking of buying one with solid state control and not mechanical parts and definitely NOT Samsung. Thanks.

That's actually an Open (OL) reading on the ohmmeter when you connected the leads to the switch, not a "Zero" reading as you said. A Zero reading would indicate continuity which is not what you want with the switch open.

I would say your burner switch is bad or seriously out of adjustment. Some are adjustable. Tiny flat head set screw down the shaft where the knobs connects. Was the burner previously working fine, then stopped working? Or has it always been like this?
@stevengray68208 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill. I'll check for a set screw. The problem started happening intermittently with increasing frequency on two of my burners; now the two burners are permanently afflicted and will only go on high and stay there. If there isn't a set screw, then I should just replace the switches?

Hi Bill. I ordered new regulators and installed them thanks to your video; now everything works great. You mentioned a set screw, in the back of the regulators (stove model Samsung FE-R500WW regulator part number DG44-01002A) there is a small Allen key. I wasn't able to find any instructions for the regulator. Do you know what that Allen key does? Thanks again! Now I can cook without turning the burner on and off constantly.

@104casper5 жыл бұрын

@Your-Self5 жыл бұрын
All burners need 240V and get it from L1(black wire) and L2 (red wire). Accusimmer needs only 120V and gets it from L2 and N (neutral White wire). Since nothing works except Accusimmer, that means you don't get 240V. Check for the half-tripped breaker. Check power cord for burns and that it's capable of supplying 240V. Check for loose wires inside the wall outlet. (if you are not comfortable working with electricity, call an electric because 240V can kill you)

Very good video... Besides the control knob for the burner and a reading in the multimeter of infinite resistance (broken filament in the burner)...I can also see a third problem... What if the normally closed contact at the burner...start to open too often???...that I believe will be a hard issue to detect. If your burner turn on...but start to go on/off more often that they should...after ruling out the other two issues (as you explain here using the multimeter)...then the problem might be the burner switch ...opening the normally closed switch too often...I reader wrote something that this switch should not pop open until 1000 degrees...Hence the on and off of a burner at a given setting should only be through the control knob...is this is correct? What do you think? Thanks!!!!
