I finally figured out a way to do a closeup video to show how I tie my tensioned FG knots.

This is an excellent way to ensure your FG knots won't slip - so if you have experienced FG Knot Failures before, this video might help you troubleshoot your knots.
The FG is an excellent knot that can be tied without tools and if you get proficient at it, and can be quite an efficient knot to tie. It does take a little bit of practice and sometimes slips if you don't use enough passes with the leader - I have had a lot of slippages over the years and have learned to tie them with a lot of tension as I show on this video and I show exactly why this knot doesn't give me troubles nowadays.

Bruh i realised the reason mine kept slipping is i didn't do the wrapping on the downward direction, thanks for the good camera angle and clarity

Another reason this knot fails is bc people use it for the wrong braid/leader size combination. The braid needs to be thinner diameter than the leader. If they are the same size, and ESPECIALLY if the braid is thicker, it won't grab. Imagine playing tug of war with parachute cord. That's exactly what tying the FG using 30lb braid and 8lb mono is like. So before you go blaming yourself, make sure you should even be tying it at all. This knot really shines when pairing 10lb braid to 10lb fluoro/mono. 20lb braid is about as high as I like to go, period. I'm just a bass fisherman tho, so salt guys may have formulas for the higher test stuff.

I find it strange when people use lighter leaders than their braid...ever since using braid, I have always used leaders of the same strength as my braid or double the strength of my braid. This is a subject that needs to be discussed more, but a lot of people don't really pay attention to.

I didn’t see you showed us anything. You skipped too many steps. What if I tie the knot directly from my rod and reel instead of tying the main line to an object, such as your camera post? How would I be able to keep the main line tight during my tying since the rod tip is flexible?

Did you watch the whole video? Because I mentioned where I tie it when I am fishing, watch it again and listen carefully should be near the start of the video right after I said it could get shaky.
