Just a tip bro allways start from the top run the gun down without stopping … if the run curves follow whichever curve and follow till you reach the bottom . Once done let the cement dry a bit as you mentioned and then use a wet brush instead of your fingers to get a nice finish 👍

Excellent video, thanks for making it for us DIY's who have never done tuck-pointing before, good luck with your future projects.

Ive had difficulty finding that right consistency. Your video has been helpful. I will try a drier batch tomorrow. I have about 100' of wall to tuck point so I really needed to learn the best mix. Perseverance should pay off.

Thank you so much! Your video is very well done and provides exactly the info I’ve been searching for. I’ve got a big rock wall with deep set black mortar from the early 80’s-about to tackle it!

I found an automotive brake spoon makes an excellent tool to strike the mortar in with on that type of stone.Then after it starts to setup hit it with a stiff bristle brush to give it a nice finished look.

Benjamin...this is so helpful! Thank you! I can't find a mortar that says specifically for "grouting mix". Is it ok to use standard Type S mortar?
@joseparada44304 жыл бұрын
Add a bit of acrylic primer to the mixture and you will have a much better concrete for those joints. Thank you for sharing.

Weren't you supposed to wet the stone first before applying mortar?

I found using Mapei LFT and Stone modified thin set works much better thaN using cement mortar due it holdS faux stone well To vertical cement blocks walls. Regarding grout I am confused if using normal sanded tile grout is a better choice than using masonry mortar Please comment

Need to grout some cracked brick work and wondered about using a grout bag. Super helpful video and I decided to definitely use a bag! Had used one tube of grout with a caulking gun and it just was not handling the way I wanted. Thanks so much for showing how to use the bag correctly.

I have a stone (I think it’s limestone) wall waterfall. Some of the grout has come out and some is cracked. Do I need to remove all the old grout and tuckpoint the whole wall? If I need to remove the old grout, how do I do that? What do I use to seal it once I’m done?
@ohyeahthatsright31554 жыл бұрын
Hey Lisa, I wonder If you have sandstone . I would remove just the loose stuff and then brush with a stiff brush. Once the loose grout is out of the way you are good. May want to do all just so the color matches. Good luck Lisa, you can do it.

I love the look! What rock veneers did you use??

Get a stick from the yard and use it not your finger. Then brush it lightly after. It then looks natural. If you want it to look smooth like brick then use brick and a jointer. Just one man's opinion that has laid stone for decades.

You would know! I obviously don't do this every day but try to share what it is that I learn despite my limited experience. Thank you for your comment!

Benjamin, this is not tuck pointing. There are many types of Pointing, but tuck pointing is a specialised seldom seen method using lime or contrasting colour.

this part sucks haha. we are using tools that help smooth it out much easier. I am very detail oriented and my husband was doing the job i saw it rght after and was like um no, gimme those tools and i went back over and smoothed it better.

Fold a cuff at the top, it'll add rigidity to the bag for easier filling and keep the end clean.
