To answer your question: Design-Tutorials with the vanilla game are highly appreciated. I personally do not like those overmoded games, which might look nice, but use 90 mods which "enrich" the game by 350 menus which take me a ton of hours to familiarzie with and in th end a new patch makes half of them unusable so you start from the beginning.

Yes...I'm on PC and am trying to play a mostly vanilla game now, using Extra Landscaping Tools and a few graphic mods. It feels so much more comforting doing it this way than having tons of mods and assets that might break the game.

Well the thing is you don’t need to use mods to have the same or very similar end result, sure there are some mods that change the game significantly but still some of these tutorials just show you a new and advanced way to make a better city. You should try making some of these layouts using no mods, it is difficult but very satisfying ;)

As someone who plays this game on Playstation, I’m interested only in vanilla projects. You are the best when it comes to making most out of the game. By far! Your commitment to details, neatness, geometry and lifelike cities are reasons why I follow any step you make on YT. With that in mind, I hope you understand how highly appreciated is every video when you explain your chain of thoughts when planning a new city or roads layout. Thank you for being such inspiration and make these kind of videos as much as you can…

The real issue in terms of satisfaction is to get rid of grids. Organic looking city is difficult to design and difficult to maintain, unlike highly organised, but ugly grids.
@shinjonmal8936
@shinjonmal8936 Жыл бұрын
Grids can be beautiful if you use other conflicting shapes like suppose, a circle and a hexagon. I usually build my cities in a circle -> Hexagonal layout so that 1) it looks good and 2) it is expandable. Then I also make "little cities" for tourist areas and Industrial areas and connect these areas with the residential main area greatly, using different types of transport like bikes, ped. roads, metro, sometimes monorail and also train. I use busses and trams, ped. roads and bikes for the transport within cities. Essentially, I follow the concept of breaking the city into different smaller cities

@@shinjonmal8936 looks like little crop circles :P as someone who struggles to make elegant free style roads, I use hexagons and circles frequently too

Usually you start with a cool layout from the gound up because it's all in your mind even before start it and have good eye for it. But I loved how we can start with a shitty layout (like every single layout I create) and finish of with an okey-ish one or even a beautiful one. Sometimes I create the contour following the natural features, but I fill it with some gridy layout and that's it, I can't even think on how to improve it, because I'm locked to it. Thanks for sharing the entire mind process of building it and the key guidelines, very useful, even moving on and coming back to previous layout was an excellent exercise. Great great video! Thanks! Looking forward to the next one!

I would love videos like this on anything! Examples: road design and road terraforming (how to make sloped roads look smooth) How you make pretty pavement networks to how you choose zoning density (I mean it doesn't just affect traffic but looks too) How you keep things properly proportional (some people make their "clusters" of grid too small or too big to be good looking and effectively serviced by roads n such) Maybe also how you set up your keyboard shortcuts if u use any and also about tree placement and variations, like how to decorate around roads and such. Even if there is something others have made videos about I think many of us are interested in your perspective specifically.

Another way to make grids look more natural is not to leave them as boxes. Making the roads jut out like a tic tac toe board instead of a crafting table gives you just a little extra zoning to work with, looks a little smoother, and is a little truer to life

I think your round abouts should be a half grid larger for the larger roads. They are the right size for "residential" or interior roads, but for major traffic intersections, and larger roads they should be larger to allow more traffic to change lanes without cutting through other vehicles.

I am a mod player but I hate when mods glitch out. Over the years, I have made a habit of building with vanilla tools and assets and tweaking the build with mods if necessary. And I can confirm this by far is the best way to zone as it is both visually pleasing, and spatially efficient. Also when you build like this, you can incorporate various public transport or unique buildings or parks or just decorations and this design makes it so much easier to upgrade your neighborhoods or specialize them. This method is best for both mod players and vanilla players and I can't stress it enough.
