Thrifted skirt, turned into a lovely romantic layered piece of wearable art! This is a rare step by step tutorial showing you how to create a beautiful altered couture skirt, and I did it all on a dime! I start with a thrifted skirt and show you how to build luscious layers with clothing remnants, lace, tablecloths, fringe, fabric flowers, sequins and more. Then...we dye it a beautiful light blue color with Kentucky sky Dyemore fabric dye. Create your own pieces of wearable art (I have tons of tutorials) to wear, give as gifts or sell like I did. Most of all have fun and don't take it to seriously!

You have so much talent, but you have a real GIFT for teaching. You’re so thorough in explaining your process, and you never skip a step, making it easy for us to understand and be able to do it ourselves. Thank you so much for being willing to share all of your ‘tricks’ with us. A lot of people wouldn’t. You have a very giving heart. You are a TREASURE TROVE of knowledge! ❤

I want to thank you for allowing us to see when you change your mind, such as when you decided to cut your skirt shorter because you wanted the lace ruffle a little higher. I appreciate you showing us how you make decisions and changes as you go along working on your projects. I often begin with an idea, then add or change something. I thought that perhaps I did not plan well enough. But, you have shown me that, being able to add or subtract from my project is just part of the process and not a defect! Thank you! ❤️

Greetings from New Zealand. Beautiful skirt! Rather than cutting off and re-sewing the triangles section, you could always just add a tuck (or two) in the sheer skirt. That is what what we do in heirloom sewing when we want to shorten a skirt or sleeves. Love your videos, you do very creative work. And wonderful that you are willing to teach others. Adored the squirrel casually hopping across the path out the window, lol. Cheers.

A genuine and unique tutorial, 'tmyers handmade' videos are packed with so much knowledge that no matter how skilled a sewer/crafter you are, it would be impossible to walk away at the end of one w/out having learned at least a trick...Lol... or five! The creator of 'tmyers handmade' videos (and short clips) is Tracy Myers, a wonderfully articulate artist and gifted teacher. I've been following Tracy on KZbin for awhile now, but clearly remember my initial impression was that Tracy is someone who radiates creativity, and has likely been making art since she was old enough to hold a paint pallet or thread a sewing needle. After watching several of her videos, I pondered their paradoxical effect on me: on the one hand, Tracy's passion for one-of-a-kind design, fashion, and styling is extremely contagious, and her videos are an effervescent mixture of vivacious enthusiasm. But wait, "effervescent mixture of vivacious enthusiasm"...Lol...sounds a little hyper, or a bit exhausting though doesn't it? Well, hence lies the paradox I mentioned. When it comes to sharing her passion for creating, Tracy wears her heart on her sleeve as she lovingly reminds us during ea presentation that perfection is definitely Not the goal - but neither is simply copying Tracy verbatim. The underlying vibe is that "Fun"..."Joy"...and, "Creating" are not Just permissible in her videos, they're part of who we are as humans. Tracy inadvertently gives us permission to cultivated creativity - that (often neglected) part of ourselves...by gently taking the viewer's hand and leading us...back to ourselves.

I bought a similar skirt - although not as ornate - from Garnet Hill. I love it but wanted to make one. My head nearly exploded trying to figure out how to do it. I gave up. I couldn’t believe my luck running into your tutorial! I cannot wait to do this. The skirt is exquisite. You also explain every step & left nothing out which I so appreciate. No wonder these are so expensive!! You are a very good and creative seamstress! I am considering using some liquid seam binding, depending upon the fabric and how it takes, to possibly save some sewing time. We’ll see. Thank you for sharing this!! ❤️🇺🇸

Just a tip when sewing seed beads and sequences is on the back do two locking stitches before doing the next one, do a locking stitch then add the sequence and seed bead then lock them in place. What this does is if one does come undone then the rest won’t come off as well. The skirt came out stunning a very shabby sheik look for sure.🤗🤗

tracy you are the eighth wonder of the world! I’m working on an entirely different and completely unrelated project but decided to watch this while having a snack and learned so much just from your thought processes! Things always make more sense when other people do them, and with you it’s the same- I find myself saying, “why didn’t I think of that?” I’ve upcycled a few things before, but never as smart as you did here

This wasn't a tutorial!!! 🤔 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This was a whole EDUCATION!!! 😁 Good God woman! I couldn't love this skirt anymore if you tortured me in an attempt to squeeze more love out of me!!! It is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! 😍😍😍 I don't know where you've been hiding but I'm glad I found you. I'm definitely subscribing after this. This was literally incredible. I think my only suggestion would be to tuck the top into the skirt so it's closer to your body, just to highlight your upper and lower body with more definition. At the moment the top bagging out makes you look bigger than you are and you've got a nice slim waist. Plus a sleeker looking top would accentuate the skirt even more, rather than detract from it. But that's not criticism at all, just my opinion. I'm a kind of "either upper or lower body wow factor" kind of person, you know? Big billowy tops with straight jeans, or simple jersey vest tops with billowy skirts. But hey, you do you! I think we're approximately the same age, and if I had a dinky lil waist still, I'd be highlighting it. You sure do have a lot going for you!!! You're very attractive, have a lovely figure, very stylish, artistic and make skirts like this masterpiece! 😮 I can't wait to dive into your other videos now! If your inspiration can help me become even a quarter of looking as put-together as you, I'll be a happy woman! 😘😘😘

Wow!! Now if I would have had a sewing teacher like you in high school, I'd have been sewing up a storm!! Absolutely Fantabulous pieces that you make. Thanks for sharing your Absolutely wonderful work. Hmm, I have so many old vintage clothes in tubs that I hesitate to throw anything out due to how they come back around in style. But, I also have some of my mums old clothes and have been trying to figure out how to use her clothes so that I can keep them but have a piece of her with me.

It's gorgeous! I try to do similar things but idk how to sew by machine. So I hand stitch. I just found you today and I did something similar but different for a pirate skirt/shirt I made out of scrap fabrics. No flowers on mine and I didn't have to dye it. But anyways watching this video is a huge inspiration and kinda let's me know I'm on the right track with my sewcraft
