Now I finally understand the 80s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

time to quickturn backwalk to the deku tree loading zone ty for the data!
@Kaztalek Жыл бұрын
very useful, this info would've helped me a lot earlier. maybe a bit of an edge case, but I think 1 or 2 of the methods might work differently straight from entering a loading zone with forward speed, since iirc the little run you do at the start has to be canceled first. I didn't bother handling those situations optimally so I could be wrong about that

As someone who cares nothing about turning around, the amount of info you spit out and show on screen is the exact thing my brains loves to absorb. I will not use any of this info at any time. But I love the math.

That was excellent. Thank you so much for doing this. I've been in love since the first time I saw Brad get inverted cam out of a roll. The techniques in this video made OoT so much more rewarding to play for me, honestly more so than learning most other tricks, even more difficult ones, because you can use these anywhere, it feels good to pull off and there's little penalty for messing up. Seeing what the tradeoffs actually are is magical. Instantly one of my favorite pieces of OoT documentation.

"How to turn around" may be a joke title, but it was literally me when I fucked up my hip at the gym last year.

@@dannyb21892 Yeah, I was basically immobilized for a day, then couldn't even turn in place without severe pain for a week. X-ray came up with nothing and the ortho said to just rest and ice it, gave me a couple exercises, and to start phasing in the treadmill every other day. Took about 3 months to be back to normal.

A saved frame is a saved frame, you can't say it's only 0.99
@Oksana2501 Жыл бұрын
i feel like he explained what he meant by 0.99 pretty well, but i guess a more easily understood unit type would be a fraction ie. 99/100 frames saved, because over the course of using it 1 frame is guaranteed to have not been saved. with a tech like this which is used over 100 times during a run, although it would be easier to say it saves a full frame, at the 100th turn around the frame count would be off by 1 frame, which is then compounded every subsequent 100 turn arounds are done
@kenadams2475 Жыл бұрын
@@Oksana2501 Thank you, I definitely didn't simply make an overused joke and really needed that extra explanation :)
@dannyb21892 Жыл бұрын
@@Oksana2501 that's not at all the explanation I gave, but also they were making a joke about half A presses in Mario lol. 0.99 frames saved means that out of all possibilities of distance between you and your destination, you will save a frame in 99% of them. Has nothing to do with sequential backwalks leading to an offset, each one is independent of the last, with the result entirely driven by whatever the distance is between Link and where he's going.

Ya... the controller inputs to make a character turn around in 1 specific game does seem very boring. The thumbnail got me excited that we might be looking more at how to turn around abstractly in arbitrary 3D environments, which is much more exciting if you ask me. I'm pretty sure you clickbaited me with math just to talk about speedrunning.
