You might like to try buying a waterless substance that is easier to dissolve. For example, Blueland sells hand soap tablets that dissolve into a bottle of water and can be used as foaming soap. However, I'm sure if you found the right powder-based ingredients you could make your own. I doubt it is complicated. :-) And it would certainly be easier than the above video! (No shade on the video though. I have some bars of soap lying around and I'm interested in turning them into liquid soap! Thanks for the vid!)

Soften the soap by soaking it in a very small shallow pool of water for several hours. Break off some of the pieces and put it in your dispenser. Shake with water for a few minutes. If your arm is tired, put the bottle down and shake again when your feel like it. Shake until a gooey consistency. Don't tip out the sediment, use them for the next shake.
@d0nj032 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did it like in the video but it's too much work and I wouldn't like to have to do that every time I run out. I'm going to have to come up with something like your method, maybe using hot water to melt everything faster, and maybe using a modified container so whatever solids there are can be kept away from the end of the pipe that feeds the pump so it doesn't get clogged. Some kind of wire mesh to keep the bottom reasonably solids-free, IDK. LE: Orrr I could wrap the soap itself in wire mesh. Hmm, I think I may have just solved it so it's much more convenient. All I need is a soap dispenser with a pump, but one where half of it comes off at the top to allow the insertion of a large piece of solid soap (which I wouldn't be able to put in just through the neck that the pump attaches to). Then all I need is to refill it with hot water anytime the level gets so low it's not touching and dissolving the solid soap anymore.

@@d0nj03 Genius!!!! Can you patent this?
@d0nj03 Жыл бұрын
@@annefranciselizabeth3840 Meh. Maybe if my first thought after solving the problem was "how can I profit from this?". :) Meanwhile I found a container with a pump that opens up at the wide section, and just stuck a big piece of soap in (like half a bar if it's one of the medium/small bars). I add more hot water every time I see the consistency getting thicker and that's it. No mesh of any kind needed, the inside pipe doesn't get clogged. In fact it's the outside nozzle that starts to form a solid soap plug if I let the consistency get too thick by not adding water often enough. :) But that's easy to scrape off with a fingernail since it forms at the very end of the nozzle, so it's fine. Turns out it was all easier to do than I thought (and there's nothing to patent). It's just going to be highly dependent on the type of soap you're using and how often you add water as the solid piece inside keeps melting away and getting used.

Great video! However, if a preservative is necessary I think you should include that in the ingredients at the beginning of the video because it's not just bar soap, glycerine, and water. Also, that way someone doesn't make it over halfway thru the video then realize they don't have all the necessary ingredients.
@WholeElise4 жыл бұрын

Solid video, and I'm grateful for the upload. I have a few questions and want to preface them with an apology if they are stupid questions: 1) when you say glycerine, is there a specific type or would a vegetable glycerine at a supermarket work? 2) you mentioned a fragrance being added, is that because the regular fragrance cooks off as you melt the soap or did you use unscented soap? 3) what was the purpose of the preservative? And does the other video you mentioned contain info on where to get said preservative (if it is absolutely necessary)? 4) (this may be the dumbest question but screw it) can this be used as a body wash and just hand soap? Again thanks for the upload and clear instructions. If you take the time to answer my questions, I'd greatly appreciate it!!
@WholeElise4 жыл бұрын
No problem! Regular vegetable glycerine will work just fine. You're essentially diluting the soap so it can reduce the fragrance's potency. You may or may not want to add any additional scents, it's entirely optional. The function of a preservative is to kill or inhibit bacterial and fungal growth in a product. You can buy them online. I do explain why that is necessary in water-based products in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5Czo6KBo7CalcU But for more information I would encourage you to do additional research. And yes this would work as a body wash, although I would play around with the texture 😊

The main thing is to have enough soap, baking soda to remove odors, washing soda to soften hard water, and an Oxyclean type product to whiten. I’ll check back if I find a similar one, and give you the link. We have used this for two and a half years, and it works great. I attempted this however in a about 24 hours after I whipped/transferred soap into my soap dispenser the soap was gloopy again. Any suggestions on how long we should whip it for so the soap doesn’t remain gloopy?
@WholeElise4 жыл бұрын
Hi hun! I've played around with the recipe and it seems like the final texture has more to do with the soap you use rather than the method. A lot of soaps have various stabilisers and emulsifiers that give it that "gloopy" quality when melted. More natural soaps with fewer ingredients work best, but I appreciate that might be a little hard to get atm! After trying a few different versions I found that if you add more water / less soap it's a lot less gloopy. Then if you have a foam dispenser bottle rather than a normal hand soap bottle, that helps to give it more body to counteract the "watery-ness". It's definitely not as good as normal liquid soap but it will work in a pinch. Hope that helps! 😊💚
