It's been a while since I have had the opportunity to make some sawdust in the shop so I decided to do some turning this weekend. This video takes on that turning journey with me. I know it is a bit long, but hopefully you enjoy it.

One of the things I enjoy most is that even as your skills have increased, you haven't let your successes change you. Thank you for being so kind in sharing your knowledge and your willingness help anyone who needs it.

Glad to see you looking so happy. I know you haven't had as much time to put out videos as you want, but the quality of your videos hasn't lost anything. I really enjoy how personal you make each video like it's one on one instruction.

Great video, good to see you back in the shop. The darts, pen and bottle opener all turned out really nice. Thanks for the mention in the vid about the wood. I almost forgot what all I sent you. You have to be about out of it by now. Looking forward to the next video. Take care buddy.

Nice video. Just a note, steel tip darts like these are weighed with tip and barrel and does not include the shaft and flight weight. So the darts you made are lighter than 20g.

Don't feel bad about it being a little more time between vids. It just makes the next one that much more enjoyable. Plus, unlike some services, the benefits of KZbin let me go back and watch or rewatch (which I do a lot) your older videos.

Well Laney guess the safest place to stand is right in front of the board as you throw. Nice project, great video as usual thanks for posting.

I don't really have much interest in wood-turning projects Laney but I really enjoyed this video, and what a great result on all the projects,you should make 2 inlay cases for those darts also, it would be the perfect finish to a perfect project.

I am writing this comment even before I start watching. I am suspecting that Laney has gotten very good at the lathe and turning on the lathe I also suspect that Laney will talk alot :D (thats a good thing because he gives awesome information) I have never played darts before but I have thrown one of them magnetic ones at the fridge but nothing real fancy like yours Laney. Thanks for the great video.

Lovin the longer videos, I feel as though with shorter videos people are forced to cut certain things or not show what they want. With longer videos I feel that viewers can decide what they wanna see and skip to whatever and have the choice to view what the author puts out, and not make the author limit themselves. Great video

Just found your video as I am looking for tips as I start my first dart turning project. Any update from your friend on how he enjoyed or used his darts? Your video is very informative and I feel more confident to start. My fear though is that the lead wool will shift over time towards the front of the dart with use over time. My solution would be to add CA glue to prevent the lead wool from moving. I know weight will be an issue but it is kind of like finalizing the weight of a pinewood derby car.
@LaneyShaughnessy

This video was made many years ago, and I still use the darts made in the video. They for me are perfect flyers with just the right weight. I have changed flights many times over, but the darts still remain true.

Have you ever thought about finding a way to label the wood? Like someones name, or a business name. The only way I can think of would be to laser etch.... but maybe there is a simpler way that people like us can do?I think it would be a great way to personalize it even more!

great work dude, but if he is a competative dart player he probaly uses tungsten as a body, the weight ables them to be smaller and dont block eachother when aiming for tripple 20 ;)

you need to make a special set, weights a little bit off, nose heavy, tail heavy, each one a little different, but weighs pretty close to each other.
