Thanks Lynn. I watched this a few years ago, but time goes by and I haven't done much pen turning recently. Seeing this as I start turning again reminds me to not order any pen boxes or gift tubes, but rather make my own from some scrap wood.

Hey Lynn. I just figured out my bandsaw, and am finally making straight cuts. So, this box will be one of my 1st projects. Also, I live in a part of the world where it's difficult to find...ANYthing!. They can order...blah blah blah. Often..they have no idea what you're even talking about. I cannot find the brass rods you used for the hinges. I'm going to start by using some heave gauge copper wire. Hopefully that'll work. But, could you tell me where you get your brass rods from? I would appreciate that very much. I love this video. Thanks!! Also a subscriber :-))

+Lori B Hi Lori - That is a 5/8" core box bit used to make the groove for the pen to lay. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@lorib5288 жыл бұрын
+Lynn Lacey I can only find 3/4" or 1/2" core box bit, which would you recommend? I am going to make a few at a time I am going to make to width then do grove and then cut to length, I think that will make it easier. I was also thinking of making them 3/4" board so I will not have to resaw. I do not use a table saw I only use band saw or chop saw. I am a chicken when it comes to the table saw. Thanks again.
@LynnLaceyLLWW8 жыл бұрын
Hi Lori - Given the choice of 1/2 or 3/4 I would probably go with 1/2. It depends on what diameter pen is going to go inside. If needed you can always increase the width of the groove by making small fence adjustments and making multiple passes.
