Fun fact: Arius is highly regarded by Muslims as he was a Unitarian, rejecting the council of Nicea and being persecuted by Rome.

Indeed, and it is not surprising as there are a lot of similarities between Arian Unitarian theology and the taw7iid of Islam and there are those that have argued when discussing the historic origin of Islam as a historic human cultural product, rather than a divine revelation, that Islam and its origins probably got influenced a lot from Arian Christianity, together with a lot of other sources of influence. I might actually discuss this in a later video that I have a kinda half-written script on but never really finished (I have a lot of these that I really need to finish).

I am glad you liked it!👍 And yes there is much to take in, but I think I think I did a pretty good job abbreviating this enormous subject!

the amount of information that you covered in this short video is astonishing, I have seen so many videos on this topic that are very lengthy and many a times not at all engaging. I found your video to be very helpful 🙂

👍 I am glad you think so. I usually aim at abbreviating large topics, such as this topic about early christian groups, in such a way that they become a lot more engaging and comprehensible, but without sacrificing too much depth and leaving the most important parts intact! It is hard to do, but I am glad it pays off!

The coptics in Egypt were persecuted by Eastern Rome due to their miaphysite views.

Yes this is indeed true, and probably one of the reasons as to why 3amruu ibn al-3aaS could conquer Egypt as quickly as he did, because some of the locals sided with him due to displeasure over the Romans.

@@thehistoriographer But he succeeded!👍 Also, this is a good demonstration of how decentralized the command and politics were of the early Islamic polity that was the Raashiduun caliphate, as decisions were taken largely on a very local scale and independently by various sub-actors such as Ibn Al-3aaS.

The visigoths in North Africa were staunch Arianists.
@theculturedjinni

Actually it was the vandals that were the Arianists in North Africa (their view of Arianism made them destroy Icons and religious statues which gave the name of Vandalism its modern connotations), though the Visigoths in for example Spain were Arians too before they converted to trinitarian Catholicism.

@@theculturedjinni Ah yes. Got mixed up with the Vs there.
@theculturedjinni
@theculturedjinni 9 ай бұрын
@@thehistoriographer If you think those are hard to mix up then know that here in northern Europe we have had Geats (Götar), Gutes (Gutar), Goths (Goter) & Jutes (Jutar) & Venner (Vänner), Wends (Vänder) & Vandals (Vandaler) as similar names of tribes and groups. Especially the first three as there is only one vowel change in their names in Swedish, especially in certain dialects that drop "a" or "e" before the "r" in plural endings.
