How to Unlock Unlimited Recording on Sony a6300, a7SII, a7RII

Notes: If you shoot video in mp4, you will be limited to 35min. If you shoot video in XAVC S, you'll be able to record for as long as your camera can (before battery death, overheat, or memory full). 4K is great to be able to record, but realize, you can actually record at 1080p for much longer. It doesn't overheat the camera as fast. The menu did feel sluggish a little bit. I was not able to format the card after a long recording session. I had to format the card in the computer. I will have to do more test.

This hack does not work in 4k with the new a6500. It will however work in 1080p Hopefully there will be a firmware update to correct this.

Hi. I installed on both a7s and 6300 and is working like a charm. I try recording mp4 mode in my 6300 and so far there is not limit. In my a7s using mp4 mode only recorded 17 minutes. Shooting in XAVC S there is not limit. One piece of advise so it could also work for all guys outhere. Follow the instructions and only user internet explorer in order to download and upload the app to your camera. Many people have issues using safari. Otherwise you´ll get error while installing the app. Thank you for the video.

Oh, it's an Android!?? That means it's wide open for mods like this, I guess. And a lot of talent out there that knows how to do these things. There are only two downsides with this camera, that has had me staying away from it: Capped recording time, and overheating. Thanks for showing us solve both of these shortcomings, mate!

that1cameraguy Yes.. I live in Norway, so the overall dry and low temperature here will surely help. I was operating it for about 15 minutes in the store just now, with the screen out, and it only felt slightly lukewarm behind the sensor. But now when I'm looking at the footage I shot, I regret not setting the shutter angle to a lower value. I have no idea what it was set to, but it all looked like a motion blur party, he he. I also noted that the rolling shutter seems much much less noticable when shooting in HD, compared to 4K.

I've installed the app successfully, but I now have two problems: first it says it doesn't works in 4k (it says it only works with RX100M4 in 4k). But it should work in HD. Secondly, it zoomes in when i press the REC button, it's like if the camera was recording in APS-C mode, but it wasn't before installing this programm. I suspect giving the camera greater potential recording times will ultimately cause early failure of the unit. On paper this hack could be useful but given the A6300's overheating issues within its preset recording parameters I'm sure that anybody adding this app would likely invalidate their warranty.

Sorry, but Magic Lantern doesn't do the trick. So far, the only thing I've found that comes close is HDMI into an Atomos Ninja 2, but even then you have to cycle through the menu before 29:59 to prevent the sensor from shutting down automatically. Not bad for dedicated operator, but awful for one man band type operation.

+Ben McCartney The closest thing I could say is that their is a Movie Restart feature in magic lantern that will restart the camera after it hits the 30min mark. You will lose about 5 seconds between clips.

^^Just works untill firmware middle of 2017. If you get a new one withe latest firmware, the website is not able to check out the camera status leading to no installation. Even with work around installation my camera 6500 with firmware 2018 recovered old status after I switched off/on

+DHI Enterprises I've actually produced videos on another channel before that did really well, got up to about 50-60k subscribers. Honestly, the photography KZbin genre is a tough area to crack. You have to produce consistently, produce content people want to watch, and keep yourself relevant. Set goals for yourself and if you have the means for it, invest in some advertising initially to kick start your channel. However, you have to make sure your content is going to be good. I just watch the bigger guys and see what they do right, and I try to see what I can do with the resources that I have.

Not working (I knew it). When I try to install (or get camera info, no difference) I always get "Error: Network connection" in the box. It doesn't matter if the camera is connected or not, the error comes exactly the same way. Yes, my a7S II is in MTP mode and also the plugin is installed on my IE browser. This stuff just doesn't work.

Forget it, I've just tested it. The limit is off, it's working with 4K recording (XAVCS 4K 25p 100MB), already 41 min and still running. Great :) Thanks again for this video !

My sony a7s can record 30 minutes straight, but when I see the files in the computer, the 30 minute clip is divided in 2, meaning that after 16 minutes, the camera keeps recording but it has already created a new file. Can this hack prevent it from doing that, or is just so it doesn't stop recording, creating multiples 16min files?

The camera splits the files up, but if you import them into editor in the correct sequence, there are no gaps.

Can't get it to find the downloader and the screen on the pages looks different. There is no little grayed out area. I have Windows 10 pro, and version 4.0 on my Sony a7rii. Didn't know there was a tweak until after I upgraded the camera. I bought it used and then found out it was a gray market camera. I was using Internet explorer. I found something that works. Go to this website, github.com/ma1co/Sony-PMCA-RE/releases/tag/v0.17 Then download pmca-gui-v0.17-win.exe (I's the largest files of the group. Plug in your a7rii. Run the file. Have it get your camera info. Then on the first pulldown menu, select the Tweak program. Go to the bottom of the display to download. After it downloads, disconnect the usb. Go to apps. Turn off the protect (I think this is what you have to do) then go to the video menu in this app and uncheck the pal/ntsc box. turn off the camera and hopefully it works. Since this is my only experience with this process, I want to replete the disclaimer you see plastered everywhere. You do all of this at your own risk. Just as I did. I was on pins and needles hoping it would work and not ruin my camera. I unfortunately purchased a used camera, only to find out that it was gray market. That's what put me in this position. Yuk. I didn't try any of the other tweaks that come with this app. that1cameaguy, you might want to check this out and do a video on it. WARNING: Use this hack at your own risk. You could damage your camera. Just keep that in mind if that wasn't obvious already. This is still very new and more testing needs to be done. Reports that someone posted on SonyAlphaRumours experienced a burnt sensor on their a7s gen 1 camera.

+TeamSKLeader Yeah, I wish so to, but look at the benefit of long recording at 1080p. I think some folks are making a breakthrough on the overheating. Hopefully it won't be a difficult fix. Might require opening up the camera.

+CVProductions Unfortunately the processor does a lot of work and is in a small body. The only thing Sony can do is make a more efficient processor and try to improve thermals inside another way. Or a bigger body, which many people will complain haha I personally haven't had my a6300 over heat yet, but this summer I am sure it will haha
