How to Update Gamma OS - RG405m / 405v / 505

If you have any issues with the FlashPartitions.bat file. Navigate to the Gamma OS folder > UnisocDrivers > (Version of Windows you are using) > Run DPInst64.exe Then restart your computer and try again. If this is a different computer than the one you initially installed Gamma OS or if you recently reinstalled windows you may need to reinstall github.com/K3V1991/ADB-and-FastbootPlusPlus/releases/download/v1.0.8/ADB-and-Fastboot++_v1.0.8.exe When installing make sure to check the box that says "Install Universal ADB Drivers"

The only thing you can really do is either go back to stock and try again, double check you have the version for the 405v and not the m. If it still does not work we might have to wait for a fix from Gamma.

I dont undertand, if you have gammaOS already installed, the updates are also with this long process, or it does updates like android?

Is there a big difference in performance between the full and lite version Gamma OS? i installed the full version but am trying to decide if i should switch to lite for the best fps. I mainly play Gamecube, Ps2, would the switch be beneficial in your opinion....Sorry im new to all this.

There is not really that much of a performance difference that I am aware of.

My flashpartitions.bat doesn't work. I see only the first img. vbmeta_custom.img. I'm waiting for 15 minutes but it doesn't move forward. It's not freeze cause if i press CTRL+C it's works. But I don't know why the bat file doesn't work like in the video.

Great video. Have you had any luck using video out with something like an LD39 cable? Also would you mind doing a Garlic / GammaOS dual boot guide (probably the two nicest operating systems for that device)? Also do you recommend installing emulation station and make that the default launcher instead of Daijisho? The issue is that Daijisho is the bundled default launcher with GammaOS so it might be reapplied with each update as in this video (although it's a matter of a few seconds to revert that back to ES).

I have not tried a LD39 cable yet. I do have a video on how to install Garlic OS that works with Gamma OS as a dual boot. I do plan on making a video on the emulation station but I have not messed with it too much yet.

Hey man, I have an idea for a tutorial video lol how do you set up WiFi multiplayer on these devices? Netplay via RetroArch? What about the standalone emulators? And how about connecting Bluetooth controllers to one device with/without casting to a screen? Not many KZbinrs actually go through it.

Thanks for the Ideas! I will add them to my growing list. I would love to be able to make one on Netplay for the Anbernic devices. The only issue currently is I only have one of them lol. I would like to be able to show it working and know it actually works. So maybe in the future if I pick up another one I will do that.

You would most likely be on 1.3.1. However, in order to double-check you will want to go to: Go to the Settings Tab in Gamma OS Select "System Settings" Go to the bottom and select "About device" Then you should see either "LineageOS version" tell you which Gamma OS version you are on Or "Build number" will show you the Date of the version you have

Great video man! I'm having a slight problem with the performance mode in my RG505. It get's really hot during Nethersx2 and Hard shuts down (guessing from overheating). I can't find anyone having this issue. I've just done an unbricker and downloaded 1.3 again since it works ok there. Just disappointed that I have to use the combination buttons to swap the performance modes and button config.

First time I have heard of that. You may want to make a post on the GitHub issues page or the Retro Handheld discord 405/505 channel to see if the developer has any ideas of what might be happening.

I decided to upgrade again to gammaOS 1.5.1 and it's working fine now! Although not as well performing as before, but it's not overheating. Maybe there was a glitch during my first upgrade and it was overclocking the cpu? I just prefer the ability to swap the modes with the tiles instead of buttons.

Everything works on my rg405v and fan control is nice, but for some reason flycast retroarch core doesn't work with vulkan anymore 😢 And that's a shame since redream has a ton of lag and open gl flycast has way too much graphical glitches

I think I was just using flycast with vulkan on my rg405m. What happens when you try to use it? Does it crash?

For Mac you would run the FlashPartitions.sh file instead of the .bat and that should be it.

So the UpgradeDownload exe is a program called SPD Flash Tool. I have not found an alternative for Macs yet :/

Hi, I have followed the guide video to update the gamma os on my rg405m. The flashpartitions.bat script runs but seems to finish in seconds rather than minutes. When i then reboot the rg405m it restarts fine and gets to gamma os screen but it doesnt say its updating. daijishu then initiates as normal. Has it installed correctly? When i look in the settings it says is is using the lineageOS version 19-20230611-unnoficial-arm64_bgN??

It sounds like it has not updated. I should say in Settings > System Settings > About Device Lineage OS version: GammaOS_v1.5 build number would have the number 20240107 there somewhere in there. You may want to try another USB cable or USB port or even another computer if possible. Might need to uninstall and reinstall the unisoc drivers.

Yes in 1.51 they got rid of the combos and you just use the android drop down quick menu to change performance modes.

bro i got a 405M from a guy and cant get pass the andrioid home screen because it needs the 4 digit pin, that i dont know, how do i reset it or get passed it

You could try recovery mode. Power the device off then hold the power button and the volume down button until you get to the bootloader menu and select Recovery mode. Then choose wipedata/ factory reset.

I have been facing the same wifi issue after installing gamma os on my rg405v. I made sure it was the correct system, but it just doesn't work. And stock os is working perfectly. Has anyone else adressed the issue?

I just looked into this, and it seems to be an issue with the newer model of the 405v. Gamma developer is trying to get the new model to develop a fix

So, just got my RG505. Wifi worked out of the box. I installed Gamma and now it just spins when trying to find a network and it never finds a network. Did I do something wrong?

When you installed Gamma did you make sure to install the version for 505. The only time I have seen people have that issue is when they used the wrong version. Either way I think the best option to fix it would probably trying to reinstall it making sure to use the 505 option.

@@PhyrexTechsSo, I just went back to OEM OS and then tried the RG505 lite. I got it installed just fine, same thing. No Wifi. When I go into settings, the about device says RG405V. The back of my device says RG505. Im not sure what is going on.

nothing happened when I got to the reboot. It didn't show updating. I actually have no idea what version I'm on though. Maybe I was already on the latest? But it's been many months since I installed gamma, i'm fairly sure.

You can check your version by going to Settings > System Settings > About Device Look for Lineage OS version and it should show GammaOS_v1.5 If you don't see that check the build number at the bottom and it would have the number 20240107 there somewhere.

@@PhyrexTechs I realized the issue when I went to the gammaos wiki. It seems you skipped a portion of stuff you need to do to install ADB and drivers on the host machine before the script will work? Anyway, I've done that and was able to then do the upgrade.

Yeah that is my fault. My thought process was assuming that if you had gamma OS then you would have already had installed those drivers. I did not think about people using different PCs or getting the device with it already on. Thanks for letting me know I'll make a note to give others a heads up.

Yeah I have multiple machines, reinstall windows regularly, and certainly uninstall bloat that is not being actively used. thanks though, hopefully you can just add a note for other people.

I got a new sd card, at when during this process do I swap the cards so that the software and stuff is all on my new sd card?

Gamma OS is installed on the systems internal memory and not on an SD card. Also this video is for Updating Gamma OS if you are currently on the Stock OS make sure to follow the video for installing Gamma OS for the first time.

GammaOS will not be able to make God of war run great by itself. Some people have been able to find some good settings to change in PPSSPP to improve performance. However, I have never been able to do that myself. I would recommend checking out some other guides to see if there are some settings you can tweak to make it better.

You may need to just use the unbricker tool to go back to stock and do a full install of Gamma OS from there if it is not updating.

You will want to backup anything that is on the devices internal memory. But anything on the SD card will be ok, just make sure to remove it.
