I was able to update my TV the way you showed AFTER updating the time and date on my TV(all because my TV screamed at me to do it first). Also make sure your remotes battery's are juiced up ...my analysis with tinkering with this TV was that if your TV seems slow or laggy like it could be the AAA BATTERY'S ARE ALMOST DEAD. My version is a 1150
