How to UPDATE the Wi-Fi Internet on your GOOGLE HOME

Hi, this video shows you how to update your WiFi on your Google Home if you have moved home or changed your Internet service provider. The phone used in this video to setup the WiFi on the Google Home is an Android phone.

It's so ridiculous that Google makes it so hard to just simply change over the wifi network. Meanwhile the Echo devices can easily be reconnected in the Alexa app. Why does Google love making awful UI designs that make it so hard to find useful settings? By the way they changed the layout even further so this video can't help me unfortunately.

im feeling this first hand. Simply removed my old wifi and installed the google wifi 3 point system and now its almost like all my devices simply cannot connect to the google wifi, even after rebooting the devices... it's been a rough time.

I disagree. I can set up several Google devices up in no time but my Alexa took me 20 minutes the first time in 10 minutes a second time. The app is retarded and doesn't properly explain the methods of connecting Alexa to your home network.

No different than apple! You have to buy the next item for all the features to work and they are getting rid of the 3G this year. Why are they expecting us to pay an arm and a leg ? It’s ridiculous. Now that they bought cricket… cricket customers are being forced to update their SIM cards and now update their phones so they cannot be used in the future with anything else. It’s a marketing technique. When someone stops apple… then people won’t pay as much for a simple phone. We need to go back to the old phones because these phones are forcing control through the phone!

hey buddy Im using same wifi network with same ssid but every month or 2, I just change the password of my wifi router so after I need go set up device again & again, is there any options in google home app to only change wifi network password without hassle of this whole set up process ?

Need to turn Bluetooth on even on android devices and there is a setup button on Google Home. And yes completely agree absolute ball ache trying to find out what to do after changing router.

So, is there not a way to pick which network you want it to connect to? We added a higher performing router to our service provider's junky combo cable modem, so we have 2 networks, and I can't for the life of me find anyway to just pick the new one, even if I tell it to forget the old combo one.

Did you get this sorted in thee end? I have just finished setting up my Google Nest Minis to my new network and found that once I had clicked 'Forget' old network I was able to add the Nest Mini to the new network via 'Add New Device' in the Google Home App. (Select the '+' Symbol (Top Left) in the app for Android) :)

@@danbeare5263 I had to change the password on the old network. Simply doing a Forget on the device I was using wasn't enough. Must be stored in Google acct somewhere. Which sucked, because then I had to go change the password on the other devices I wanted on it as well.

what you can do is restore factory settings for your google home devices, delete old home on your google home app, and start from scratch. i found this the easiest way

I am now in the process of deleting my "home" ecosystem and setting up a new one. Praying this works because its gotten to the point even my nest doorbell camera wont even connect and that doesnt put me at ease. UPDATE: 24 hours later I think i figured out my problem. I guess exchanging the wifi so suddenly might have had something to do with my issues. I ended up removing all family members and deleting my original "home" ecosystem and starting a new one. I still ended up rebooting all my devices once again, but by that time all my devices were accepting the wi-fi just fine. Still setting up my new ecosystem, but I hope this helps anyone down the road.

We do not have that Icon in the top right corner. EDIT: So this is weird. We have cameras through, let's say, Ring. It has a small hub connected to our Router. Apparently my man set up the Mini to go through the Camera hub. Turns out the hub was unplugged. Plugged it back in, changed the mini to the new router Password and everything is fine. So maybe this will help someone.

So I was having the same problem. It was always saying it was connected but that my iPhone and google home couldn’t communicate. So I called up google and they told me that If your trying to reconnect it that you need to use a android device. It wont work with an iPhone. So I did and it worked. Hope this helps

MY SOLUTION (2020): - Enable Old Wifi Router via Phone/Laptop. (I used a Samsung TAB-A Running Android) - Select Device (Nest Mini) In Google Home App. - Select Settings Icon (Top Right). - Select 'Forget' Next to 'Wi-Fi' (In the list below 'Home', 'Room', 'Groups' etc.) Do this for all speakers... - Disable Old Wifi Router & Connect to new Network/WiFi Router via Phone/Laptop. - In Google Home App Select the '+' Symbol (Top Left) - Select 'Set up device'. - Select 'Set up new devices in your home'. - Select your 'Home' & Click Next. (Google Home will search for devices...) - Select Device (Nest Mini) & Click Next. (Google Home will connect to device...) - Click Next on following setup pages... - Select your New Wifi & Click Next. If you could not connect to speaker (e.g. Nest Mini) check that all devices are within a good distance of new WiFi signal & try again. If You can not see your device in 'Nearby Devices' List go back to Device settings icon & 'Forget' Wi-Fi again. I had to Enable my Old WiFi again in order to see the 'Forget WiFi' option in the device settings list. I would guess that if this is not possible then you may be able to do a factory reset of the device or similar?? I hope this helps someone! ;D
