How to upgrade the memory in a HP Elitebook 840 G3 notebook/laptop. This video shows you how to increase the system memory from 4GB to 16GB of memory. This offers significant power and performance increases to the standard 4GB. I've tried to make this video as clear and as understandable as I can to help you guys.
Remove the 11 screws on the base of the unit, remembering to remove the SD expansion card and screw. Pop the base off to gain access to the Memory. Rebuild as dissembled.
As always guys, thanks for watching so please like and subscribe to me, cheers dudes! Don't forget to share this if you found it great to watch and useful to you, see you next time, Jake.

I have upgraded the RAM in desktop and laptop systems for many years, and yet I still watch your 'how to' vids, just because its you :D. The video also took me back to my school days where the Windows 7 systems used the classic theme. Keep up the good work Mr Billing :)

Great video, straight to the point without a single "I'm going to go ahead and...". Might be worth showing you touching the pipe into a radiator to demonstrate earthing yourself? Absolute newbies might understandably think of "touch something metal" in a number of ways. Thanks again, saved me a bunch of time.

I’m looking at one of these at the pawnshop right now for they want 120 I think but it has no charger. I’m wondering if I’d be able to use my hard drive from my G3 desktop into this laptop would that work? Because I Paid for these programs for work and I need to be able to access them if my desktop crashed

I have always been led to believe that the main battery must be removed during memory upgrading. Is that not necessary for these Elite Books?

16GB 2400 mhz +8 GB 2400 MHz will work in this hp 840 G3?

Does it give you the bios warning every time you start the computer or, once it passes first boot after the memory switch, it is added to the "whitelist" for good ? I add a 840 G1 (now with a G3), and adding a non HP-oem ddr3 stick, it would give the warning every time you would start the computer, quite annoying since you have to press a key to continue. Thank you for your answer.

Hi there mate. Any chance you could tell me what the standard ram is for the hp? I want to add another stick but can't see what the current one is. I believe it's the standard factory ram as stock
@JakeBilling
@JakeBilling 7 жыл бұрын
JJ JAY The factory RAM is: DDR4-2400 or PC4-19200. The machine comes with 4GB and supports up to 16GB 2x8GB 👍🏻

I appreciate the video, but you really need to be more careful in your presentation. You should remove the battery prior to installing the memory since the battery may be feeding some electrical current to the memory bay and other components of the motherboard. You also didn't mention that the laptop should be powered down first (i.e. not in hibernate or sleep modes), which otherwise could ruin memory components upon uninstall/install. Also you say, "earth yourself on something metal because of ESD," but A+ Cert requires remaining in contact with ground during all PC repairs. I'm not a pro, but I find having the components sitting on top of a large electrostatic bag and maintaining contact with it to be sufficient to preventing ESD.

My company said these only come with 8 gigs of onboard memory. What a bunch of idiots they don't think I'm going to go look the model number up and the specs and the manual and then look for videos to see whether or not this can be done? I'm just going to go get my own memories taking upgrade my own laptop since my company is too cheap to do anything about it. Not having the right tools to do the job is what drives companies out of business.

they can't help it they are all computer illiterate, even the folks at the companies that make the computers are nearly all computer illiterate. you only have to know more than the guy that hired you to get the job.
