Hey guys, here's how to install an upgraded fuel pump in a Nissan R32 Skyline GTR. In this video I show how remove the fuel pump, install a new upgraded AEM 320 LPH pump, and install it back into the fuel tank. If you'd like to get the same pump, see the link below...

Hey man, been watching your videos and following along! Thank you for the quality and for explaining everything precisely. I had one question regarding the wiring. The ground wire that was attached to the ring around the original fuel pump, what did you do with that? It almost looks like it’s wired in with the negative? If you could let me know that’s be great! Thanks again!
@Goodezilla

Yeah, it's just a ground, so I wired it in with the other ground/negative.

Super helpful video as always dude! Thanks for putting the time in to explain it all and show us how to do it. Quick questions: do you need to make any changes to the ECU tune when upgrading to a bigger fuel pump, or are all the changes that are needed just in the fuel pressure regulator? And do you need a FPR for something like a 255 or 320 lph pump in a fairly tame R32 GTR?
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 4 жыл бұрын
No problem man. I don't think you'd need any retuning as long as you can get the fuel pressure to be consistent. A bigger pump could over run the stock FPR.

It's supposed to slide out, but I think you can also just pull up on the side and it will come off of the guides. It's all plastic down so I'd say be careful doing it that way if you can't get it to slide out.

Yeah any vehicle with an EVAP system for fuel vapor capture, tends to pressurize. That is why newer cars throw engine warning lights when you leave your gas cap loose. But heck I have done hundreds of fuel pumps and I still forget every once in a while that they do hold pressure.

shouldn't the base fuel pressure be 3 bar? (43 psi) so it was correct reading immediately after installing the pump

one thing i noticed on my 32GTR is the very common voltage drop on the live side of pump, which im going to fix , but the ground/earth wire acts very strange , when i probe it the test probe flickers between ground and live , when i put a ground to it the pump gets noticeably louder , is yours the same or do i have an issue ?
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 8 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, the R32 GTR uses a dual voltage setup with the fuel pump, at idle it's lower than with throttle. I've been told this is actually controlled via ground. I will be editing another video that I did right after this upgrading the wiring to the fuel pump. I ran a 10ga wire from the battery to the fuel pump using a relay and now I have constant voltage to the pump as I also upgraded the ground wire right to the chassis in the trunk.
@Pureazz1
@Pureazz1 8 жыл бұрын
so wiring the ground straight to the body is ok ? no side effects ?
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 8 жыл бұрын
It will make the pump run at 12 volts all the time, so it may throw off your tuning at idle (and whenever Nissan has the pump running at less than 12 volts). I didn't switch the ground either, I just spliced into the ground and had it run to the trunk as well.

sorry if this was asked already but is the stock harness ok for a 320 or 340 pump? Wont be over taxing the wire? my pump is on its way out and I'm looking to replace it but don't need anything crazy. Just worried running a big pump on 30 year old wires from when a pump like this wasn't easily available.
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 2 жыл бұрын
I would think it would be fine. The pump is only going to run as hard as the wiring can feed it. You could always do the fuel pump hardwire upgrade along with replacing the pump just to be safe.

@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 8 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I would recommend a heat gun if possible. You could use a lighter, but DO NOT use it anywhere near the fuel tank. I was just heating up the wires, which could have some fuel residue left on them, so just be very careful if you need to use a lighter to heat up shrink wrap/connectors.

You need a way to connect the power and ground wires to the pump. So if the stock Wiring connector doesn't work on the new pump, then yes you need the wiring connector that is supposed to come with the pump.

When I replaced my R32 fuel pump with the Nismo one I didn't depressurize the tank or the lines because I'm a tard and basically ended up swimming in fuel. Then it took me literally 60 minutes trying to get the fuel pump out of the cradle. I couldn't find the damn release tab. Couple questions for you 1. Why did you take out the entire cradle? 2. How did you know what the FP should be at? 3. Will you need to re-tune?
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 8 жыл бұрын
lol yeah...live and learn. 1. Because I didn't know any better :) 2. When tuning the deadtime of your injectors, manufacturers give number out for base fuel pressure numbers. 43.5psi is close to the stock pressure so I chose that. 3. I shot this video before my dyno tune, just now go around to editing it :)...so nope, no retune.

Hey I just did the install with the very same pump. Im just wondering did you ever try to drive the car before doing the rewire? Mine will idle fine and it drove fine for about 10 minutes but then the rpm gauge started to jump around and it was running lean. Im thinking it either isnt getting enough voltage or maybe i have an injector leak. Any thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the combinations of injectors and fuel pumps on the rb20. I've been told the stock regulator is fine, but it will probably be over run and increase fuel pressure. So I chose to upgrade to an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I can set it to what I want.

i see modified cars with fuel pressure regulators. What do they do and y do u need one
@Goodezilla
@Goodezilla 8 жыл бұрын
A fuel pressure regulator is meant to keep the fuel pressure at a desired pressure at any operation condition. On a turbo or supercharged car, the fuel pressure regulator will increase the fuel pressure 1 psi for every 1 psi of boost. This will keep the fuel pressure at the same pressure with any amount of boost and keep the tuning of the car consistant.
@JJ_ExMachina
@JJ_ExMachina 8 жыл бұрын
It is also important to use a good quality fuel pressure regulator, the cheap ones are just for looks, and you should not rely on them to provide accurate and consistent pressure, let alone offer rising rates.
