Alot of people dont realise that the rb26dett is a racing block that is internally braced, the 2jz is not. Fantastic motor. Incredible craftsmanship.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by internally braced? Are you referring to the fact that the crank shaft uses a girdle instead of individual main caps?

That doesn’t mean they should. When performance is the goal, blueprinting of the engine is required. I didn’t see any measurements taken, so if learning is what you want. Then this isn’t where you should go.
@maxmekkker6 жыл бұрын
@@infamyseemsshort yes that's correct. This is not a "how to" video. I wouldn't recommend a any body to do this without experience.
@samsonian6 жыл бұрын
infamyseemsshort true. A channel I have found recently where the production of the videos is geared toward showing the proper way to put together an engine with blueprinting and all the insanity it entails is Subi-Performance. Top-shelf work and top-shelf equipment building top-shelf motors (at different levels of tune, which is cool to watch the difference).

This is the type of engine build video I like. No music, no voice over just work and the nice clicking noise from the torque wrenches. One question, why didn't you wrap your turbo's or the manifold? I keep going back and forth on whether I should wrap mine on my VG30dett.
@maxmekkker6 жыл бұрын
John Sumner : Thanks 😀 . If wrapped between the manifold and the heat shield the wrap gets wery hot, and can melt. I notised that with my previous build. I want to use the heat shield too keep a stock appearance. Wrapped is the best solution to keep the surroundings cold. VG30DETT is an amazing engine 👍

Hey man, I just thought I'd drop a quick comment here. I think you'll find setting up your ring compressor a little looser will result in you being able to knock the pistons in a lot more easily. I set mine up at work so that with 3 or 4 taps from the handle of a hammer or mallet will knock them in. It takes a fraction of the time that way for each piston too. As long as you support the ring compressor so it doesn't jump around, you'll never damage a ring on the way in...Just a little tip. I'm a mechanic, race engine builder and Skyline owner myself ;)
@maxmekkker8 жыл бұрын
Daniel Brealey Thanks! The pistons wasn't that hard to push down, but you are probably right anyway. It sounds like I'm hitting harder than I actually did, because the camera picked up the sound to good ;-) I'm not a engine builder by profession ;-)

You might want to consider safety glasses, especially under the hood when the motor is running. My work requires them all the time and found them uncomfortable at first but now I feel naked working without them. If a belt breaks or hose sprays hot oil in your eyes, it would be terrible. Also, make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by, especially in a garage with wood walls. A friend that I grew up with, died under a car in his garage when fuel ignited. Having safety glasses on in such a situation might allow you to maintain vision and escape. Simple safety steps can drastically improve your chances of survival.
@maxmekkker7 жыл бұрын
JunkmanJim : Thanks for your advice. Sorry for your friend. I always have a fire extinguisher nearby, but I seldom use safety glasses. But I always do a risk evaluation before start. I've worked as an mecanik for all most 25 years now, and I've taken some damage too eye's and hands...

Did you have your rotating assembly balanced? Pistons/Rods to Crank?
@maxmekkker8 жыл бұрын
GoodeZilla: no I didn't. My last engine build before this one was a Nissan CA18DET engine. I got everything balanced with that engine, but it was not really much to do as it was all most in perfect balance. But it feels good to have done it. On the other hand, I think Nissan did a good job when they built it 😉 If you should decide to balance it, you should also balance the crank with pulley and flywheel. Good luck with your project! I'm so looking forward to seeing your videos 😀👍 And of course, just ask if I can help you with anything! I will tell you if I'm only guessing 😉
@Goodezilla8 жыл бұрын
Inge Hildebrand Thank you for the answer! I'll probably be getting in touch with you with little weird questions haha. For example...I see you disconnected the transmission before taking the motor out. Was that difficult? Did you have a transmission jack? Did you have help? :) Thank you again!
@maxmekkker8 жыл бұрын
Yes do that! Yes I disconnected the gearbox first, mostly because my garage isn't long enough, but also because the lifter was not big enough. It was not too difficult. I first tok out both engine mounts, so the engine got lower, and only then I could reach the 2 top bolts on the gearbox, and the top bolt on the starter motor. I used a standard stand too kip the front of the gearbox up. The mounts on the gearbox was all most holding the gearbox up by it self. I took the engine out and in by my self, without help. I got some help from my wife to lift on the cylinder head and standing on the break pedal when I torqued the crank bolt.

Thanks! The reason I did't mounted sump upside down was to make shure no one of the baffles on the Nismo baffle plate should be stucked in open position by the oil pickup. Not sure it was necessary but... I dont like when too much of the silicon seal escapes and into the engine. Oilpan is 100% tight and completely dry on the outside :-D Nevertheless, thanks for your tips.
