When that happened to me I got a "reward" of stalker dragging the camera into the terrain, which allowed me to fly it "under" the map. The distance limitations still applied but I could see the caves and geysers etc. from the "outside".

I put together a "scanner room flat pack" for my Cyclops. One wall locker will hold everything needed for one scanner room with 4 range mods, one multipurpose room, a bioreactor, a hatch to get in, a tool to construct it with, and a couple of fish to start the reactor. If I am collecting resources some distance from my base, I will likely be in the Cyclops and I can throw up the little scanner base to scan for what I need and pack it all back up when I am done.

I've done this too. Just have everything in a locker to put down a mini base for a scanner. Would be nice if there was just a scanner module to put in the Cyclops that scans are you go, but I guess the devs didn't think of that.

I set up like 10 different scanner rooms around the Aurora's crash site right after it blew up and in the rusty/misty water I found like 2 Reaper Leviathans as so in as I entered the area. When I added the scanning rooms each going deeper deeper into the water and I found over 17 Leviathans. It was crazy. Love this game so much.

range is all you need. always totally worth it to build a scanner room, besides this, another practical use for them, is to mark locations, like cave entrances, or to mark certain paths, the camera drones make pretty damn good beacons.

bugs about deconstruction of scanner room: 1. Detached camera drones will not disappear when the scanner room is deconstructed, the next time you build a scanner room you will get 2 extra camera drones without needing extra material. 2. The installed upgrade modules in the scanner room will disappear when the scanner room is deconstructed, and they will disappear forever, so remember to remove the upgrade modules before deconstructing the scanner room.

i dont think it is worth either, bu the time you go for 1 item outside, you already have 3 or for showing already, what i do all the time is put the scan working jump outside and start picking up the first that shows up, then i keep going, for some reason when i have only 1 showing and i pick it up, at least 4 or 5 show instantly after i pick the last, i think is the game spwaning more to keep collecting... but i dont have any upgrades except for the hud chip to see the resources on my screen ;)

Honestly, except for the camera drones to scout the interior of complex wrecks before I actually go wreck-diving I find scanner rooms pretty much useless to begin with. Resources are so piss-easy to find I don't really need the computer to point them out to me.

I did this as well. I have a scanner room sitting on the beach by the weapon and it can detect the reaper levaithan on the other side of the weapon swimming about. Gave me real peace of mind until I came to the grim realization that the scanner room marker for it had glitched out and was stuck in one spot. I only realized it after I came face to face with the ugly bastard while looking for Magnetite. Gave me a hell of a scare lol

@@k14brb Could be a glitch. Mine is working fine. Alternatively if you're trying to spot reapers, the sonar upgrade for the seamoth is a good thing to have (plus defensive perimeter)

One tip for the 4 scaner range, if you are not patient, you can put the 4 scaner rage upgrades start the selected material, sleep and boom a bunch will be marked in the map

I would recommend for your scanner 3 range 1 speed it takes ages normally but just 1 speed upgrade will lock onto the first node of whatever your after in just a few seconds and by the time you get it the others will have started popping up so 1 seems to be enough.

I've found that the lower in the terrain that you place the scanner, higher projection is from the floor, and the easier it is to see caves.

If it narrows the initial materials down to say one list where as sometimes you have 2 or 3 list this just means your in a area with a specific set list of resources.

I noticed when I had a bio reactor that my list would reset if my reactor ran out of fuel. IE the base was out of power or maybe just low power. I haven't tested to see if that's 100% true but it might explain why this is happening if you have solar or some other non persistent power source.

From my understanding, the spawn rate and locations are randomized between games. I know I found several in a game before I ever finishing the game and releasing my own Time Capsule so I expect it is just randomized from the pool mostly but perhaps with a greater chance for your own to show up. When you say "best locations" do you mean for building bases? Finding resources? What exactly about min and max depths?

I’m still referring to time capsules, I’ve read somewhere that TC only (or preferably) spawn in a range between 100 and 300 meters but I don’t know if that’s confirmed. Also I know that there are areas that are preferable for TC spawning but again I have no confirmation. If you have time I thought you could test these things out 👍

I think it would be cool if you could network scanner rooms. So when you do a scan in one, they all scan for the same thing, and provide the results to your HUD. This way I could be in the safe shallows, and start a scan for shale outcrops, but another scanner room in the jellyshroom caves would start the same scan too.

Ok i feel better now, my cameras keept disapearing from my scanner room and apearing away around stalkers, i kept binging them back and the stupid stalkers kept taking them, until i got tired of it and pick them up and put them inside a locker i made inside the scaner room, so anytime i need it, i just put them in the water and use them then i go and pick them, but for me, the camera does not have many uses, i just turn the scans on jump in the water to start the hunt... but yeah i though my game was bugged or something cause the cameras kept disapearing, but i guess that is a normal thing then lol, it was kind of funny, cause i kept bring them back and the stalkers go and pick them, i even put sometimes inside tunels to hide them, but with magic the stalkers can cross trough walls and get them anyway ...

It scans objects close within range first, then furhter away. Might be it scanned another stalker tooth close by. It sometimes did bug out on em though. But you can change scan category and then change back for an ez fix

Scanner rooms can easily have a range exceeding the area the game has loaded. To me it seems like an oversight that scanner rooms don't force loading of all inside their range.

I have found that you can "salt" the scanner room. If you want to scan for an item that's not showing up drop one of the item outside near the scanning room. That makes it show up on the control panel.

It is the buggy aspect I would say as I have had the scanner room mark Metal Salvage and continue to mark it even after I ran it through the Fabricator. Sucks having 10+ marks all on your base for a resource no longer there.

From what I found, you just need one chip and it will work in conjunction with the closest scanner room. When I was in the Lost River by my scanner room there, I did not see scans from the Scanner Room in the Grassy Plateaus.

it will work for all scanners in which you are inside of their range. So if you have a base with 2 scanners and set one to metal salvage and the other to limestone, you will see markers for both types of items.

It has to be in range to be found. If you already found one you can drop it shortly close by and pick it up again and it'll be in the list. Being in the list doesn't mean it can find any if there is no more of it in range.

Has anyone tested out having multiple scanner rooms throughout all bioms and still being able to pick up what is what on the hud display? How about multiple scanner rooms in the same area? Do you have to have multiple hud chips to see different scans? Do the cameras help extended the range of the scans?

From what I saw, having multiple scanner rooms the drones will affect the nearest Scanner Room as far as range extension. I had several cases where there were resources showing outside the visible map area in the Scanner Room. I did not try multiple rooms in the same area, though I would expect the HUD chip simply will display for whatever rooms are in range.

That is a bug that has been in the game for a long time. Sometimes the item is marks is one that was already harvested or is spawned inside the terrain where you can't reach it.

It depends on the single item spawns you get. When you load the game it will spawn new drops into the surrounding areas. In addition, it depends on how the game "detects" the spawns as I have seen the issue where the Scanner Room doesn't list a certain item until after I have been able to find it by looking at it.

Swole Senzu it kind of depends on the different materials in your range. What ever resources are on your page(es) are the materials in the 300+ meter range around you if that makes sense. Also I’m pretty sure but not 100% sure it’s true

You need to build the Moonpool for the Seamoth upgrades. You can find the fragments for the Moonpool easily at the Mushroom Forest (go north). Btw. you can swim deeper by yourself without the Seamoth, you just consume more oxygen.

You select an item from the control panel on the wall. This will populate the list based on what resources are within range so if you still see nothing after a few minutes, then either there are no scannable resources in range or something is bugged. Try deconstructing the scanner room and then rebuild it.
