How To Upgrade Your X-rite Device License For Use With Calibrite Profilier! ReUpload

How to upgrade X-Rite Devices to use with Calibrite Profile. Calibrite has launched a new calibration program called calibrite profiler and all of Calibrite devices are supported right out of the box. However, if you have an X-Rite device and would like to use these calibration devices with Calibrite new Calibrite Profilier, there is a process that you have to go through to upgrade and pay a one time licensing fee. Find out in this guide how to go through the process and some of the things to be aware of ahead of time. Please note, during the license upgrade process and upon first launch of the software after the licensing upgrade, an internet connection is required, more on this many more in the video.

A question, and not sure if I missed it, I understand the newer software allows for hdr calibration, can the devices that require software updates to work with the new software calibrate hdr displays or is it hardware based?

Awesome 👍. But will the software work with old SW2700PT MFG Jan 2020 ? I think there should have been a key number to manually link software with hardware. For me where i live we don't have good network yet. And i have doubt too. Do we need to pay again if my both PC and laptop is completed formatted. Does the online registration needs to sign in to calibrite site before this process ?

This software is display agnostic, meaning that you can use it on any display. This software will not do hardware calibration. This online registration for the device, as I have shown in the video is a one time thing.

It seems that the X-Rite i1 Studio (the device on the right side of the screen at the beginning of this video) is not yet supported by the software. I connected mine but nothing happened although it is working fine with older Calibrite software.

Love the detail in your videos, the whole channel is incredibly helpful. This is slightly off-topic but what's your experience with getting a spectrophotometer recertified and calibrated? How important is that for accurate calibrations? I have an i1Basic Pro 2 that must be 5-10 years old. The certificate it came with says X-Rite recommends recalibration every 12 months and they quoted $700 for the service. What's your experience, does recalibration make a big difference on an old device like this?

Thank you. i1Basic Pro and the whole i1 Gen Spectrophotometer have been discontinued for a long time now. I don't know if they even recalibrate it anymore. You can try reaching out to X-Rite, but my guess would be, they would tell you to buy a newer gen. As far as calibration goes, most will work just fine past the factory calibration date. Especially if you keep the white calibration tile clean and in the dark, away from UV and visible light. If so, I would not worry about it much. If you see yellowing, then the recalibration process would be necessary. Also, ask yourself how crucial color is to your work. Personally, if you are printing thousand dollars giclee and selling them for 5 digits or more, then it is worth it. Otherwise, I would say not so much. Either that or you do volume printing.

@@ArtIsRight Thank you for the thorough reply. I reached out to X-Rite and they still offer recertification for that model but they quoted $700 to do it. Feels a bit steep so at that cost not sure if recertification is worth it or if it's smarter to invest in a new unit. I'm supervising a team of video editors making marketing videos for a large company so color is important. The white calibration tile is clean and the whole unit has been kept nice and clean and stored in its case. Going to test it today and calibrate my Apple Studio Display following your awesome tutorial to see how well it works. If the results are good I might just keep using it without getting it re-certified.

I just upgraded my i1DisplayPro tonight to use the Calibrite profiler but it cant make any measurements. It works fine on the old Xrite profiler so I know its not broken. Also the calibrite profiler sees the device and can detect the ambient cover but just cant measure any light. I even uninstalled the older Xrite software in case there was a conflict. Nothing I do will make it work. Should I try re-installing the calibrite profiler? Any other idea?

Did you pay for the one time upgrade? If so, I would reach out to Calibrite support, it may be a backend registration thing. Normally, I would talk with the server to authenticate your device id.

It did the license update fine and sees the device. It can detect the cover so the USB communication is good. It just cant see any measurement when it starts flashing the colors. I finally got it working by downgrading to the version before the latest and it was even worse the program would simply terminate after a few seconds. After a few tries it then popped up the do you want to upgrade and I did that and now the current version works. That's kind of seriously buggy code but its working fine now. Hope it stays that way. :) @@ArtIsRight

Hello, i have an xrite i1 display pro, but when i plug it in, the calibrite profiler app shows me an error message : "Invalid Device Serial Number". When i try to register manualy the device, in Serial number i can't write it, whatever letter i type it corrects it as "I1-", and i can't type anything more. I tried uninstalling the app over and over again, checked the app version, but it doesn't change the outcome. I need your halp please, thanks

I am using the X Rite i1 Display pro plus with Benq PMU for the SW270C. Is this license upgrade absolutely necessary? After upgrade, will PMU show my XRite unit as a Calibrite unit? I updated the license for my X-Rite ColorMunki Display, but I can no longer profile my projector: it always tells me that the sensor is not aligned to the center, despite having tried to move it in all directions without ever going beyond 1 .5 times the height of the screen as indicated in the instructions. Obviously I wrote to support, but they don't respond. Furthermore, I have to force exit from the program every time, as it is not possible to exit regularly: perhaps the update does not include the use of the device with projectors? How to proceed to request a refund of the amount paid for the purchase of the license?

Everything would have to be done through their support. I am saddened that you have this issue. However, I don't work for the company. I would send them another email as a follow-up. They are probably inundated. For now I would recommend using Calibrite ColorChecker Studio software, I think you can still download that

i1pro you need to use i1Profiler from X-Rite and they may not support that device any more. Contact X-Rite for support on this.

This is a gross oversimplification of the reality of software development costs. You are being asked to pay a $9.99 one-time fee because your device is from a former company, X-Rite. Sure, Calibrite uses X-Rite tech, but they now operate as 2 separate companies. To say that this newly formed company should grant an open license for devices sold under X-Rite with X-Rite branding is a stretch and wishful thinking. Calibrite has to develop its own software, and sadly, Chat GPT can't create this software by just typing in a prompt. Development and software engineers cost money. You can choose to see it your way, but the fact is that $9.99 is hardly a steep price to pay to access the latest software that has been recorded from the ground up. In a world where most other companies are now becoming wise to the fact that perpetual license alone is inadequate to cover software development costs, the fact that Calibrite still gives full license with their hardware purchased today is excellent. Don't bother with DataColor because it is over a decade in the same time frame as the i1Display Pro lift span. There were at least 3 new Spyder devices, each with at least 2 or 3 variants, which, so the other brand is not doing much better. And if one wants access to the latest Spyder software, too bad, you have to buy a new device. Sure, you can say their device is cheaper, but the moment you have upgraded, even just once, the price is now the same as an i1Display Pro. There's more to this, but I'll end here.

One can always get Spyder, where the software won't upgrade for newer devices and OS, past a certain point. And the device can't be upgraded to handle new display tech. There are alternatives but not necessarily better.
