Same here. Hand taping everything, knife and trowel, for 25 yrs. Hands, shoulders and elbows are getting pretty wasted! I just started using the inside corner tools. Pretty nice considering they coat both sides of the angle at once. Looks good, too. Now I’m thinking about the flat boxes. I wish the pumps were cheaper, though! Good luck with everything.

I run right over the plugs makes for way less touching up with a trowel. Just cut them out at the end and clean them out when it's all dry

When you mixing up your mud compound try back spinning it in reverse on your drill... doing so pulls most of the air pockets out of the mud.

Are these mud boxes tapered so it would essentially eliminate the need to feather? I do not do drywall for a living, but when i do drywall around the house for anything that requires a lot of taping, feathering takes me the most time and i always seem to have wayyyyyyyyy too much mud

I've used boxes on jobs before that were owned by the company I was working for. I recently bought a set of level 5 boxes. I noticed 1 thing right away. The level 5 boxes are not power assist. How big of a deal is not having the power assist on the box? To me on the tape tech boxes that power assist was a pain in the ass to release before filling the box again.

I just did a garage with 9' ceilings with that short extention handle. Had to get up on a Scaffold to get the pressure to get out the first load Coat. Obviously a longer pole would be ideal, but I'm curious if you remove the springs will it run easier to apply pressure or does it mess up the working of the Boxes?

@ZomBeatBrainZ
@ZomBeatBrainZ 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the setting on the flat box makes a difference on how long of runs you can get. Changes how much mud is applied to the joint.

Hey Drywall nation. Those look like recessed metal electrical boxes. How does one finish around the box once the plaster ring is installed? Especially, I have situations where I use a 2 gang box and only need a 1 gang plaster ring. How does one finish those off? I haven't seen any vids on KZbin for this ne
@redneckgoatfarmer
@redneckgoatfarmer 2 жыл бұрын
Did you ever get your answer? Those are aren’t J-Boxes he is working with those are single and double gang plastic boxes that are just recessed. Plaster rings should always go one before drywall finish. If not we always did a hot mix or straight plaster around the mud ring and then finished with compound 2nd coat.

Hi I have a question do you have to fil the joint before Passing two coats of the flat box? or can you roll it after having stuck the paper with the bandjo?
@endoalley680
@endoalley680 3 жыл бұрын
First tape the joints properly and allow time to dry. Then fill coat joints wih the smaller of two boxes (whether 7",8", 10," or 12" and even 14") when the first coat, properly administered, is dry second coat with a slightly larger box to bury the edge from the first box. Rolling is done on angle tape when using a mechanical angle head or flusher to wipe the angle tape. So, no you dont have to coat the joints with a box first to roll the angle tape.
@darkseta34
@darkseta34 3 жыл бұрын
@@endoalley680 sorry I'm French I think I didn't explain my self correctly. When you stick your joint with a bandjo it doesn't fil the edges, do you have to fil it with mud before or can you directly apply 2 coats with boxes to finish the joint? Thx again
@endoalley680
@endoalley680 3 жыл бұрын
@@darkseta34 Sorry for misunderstanding. Two things. First, you can open up the mud flow on the banjo by loosening the thumb screws and pushing the blade in. This will put more mud behind the tape and allow you to easily fill the factory recess on the sheetrock when you tape. The downside is that the banjo runs out of mud very quickly with this setup. Another thing that I prefer is to allow just enough mud out of the banjo that you can run an angle head over the angles without a lot of excess mud spilling out. Instead, you use a sharp drywall knife to cut out broken bits of sheetrock before taping. And V the butt joints. You then prefill all joints with thick mud. That way you can tape with a banjo that is less than wide open, and still have a great fill on your factory edges. Because we always want our work to look pretty, at all phases of completion!
@SuperUncleRyan
@SuperUncleRyan 3 жыл бұрын
@@darkseta34 I start with a 7 inch box to mostly fill the recess. Then 10...12. Many guys seem to skip the 7" and fill and first coat with the 10". I do mostly commercial work and our walls are not textured so I prefer to do it in 3 and have a smoother wall.
