Just buy the lightning strike fire starter . Worth the money , and you wont find a better , more well designed , ferro based system than that ....its foolproof . Yes the full size is a little pricy , but whats your life worth ? I picked one up when they first came out , and its worth the money . Practice with a ferro cant be beat , however , if the reality is , that a person isn't going to do that much . Then they need to get real , and get a system like that , that will work , with complete lack of training . Again practice is best , but when its not ....thats what I know works . Its been out there for a long time now , why people forget about it , I dont know , still the best design you can get .

This video was focused on using a ferro rod by request. The lightning strike is coming in a future video because it is a solid choice. Thanks for watching.

Size does matter in this case. I could never get the leverage with the 3" ferro rod. Definitely going to try with a different version. I may have missed the reason for the small layer of paint on the new rods. Is that simply a corrosion issue?

It looks nice and protects the ferro rod. I only scrape off the paint where I am going to use it.

Thank you my friend. I think I am going to do more bush craft type videos. People seem to like them. Thanks for watching.

Just carry stormproof matches
@jackofalltrades78226 ай бұрын
And what happens when you run out of matches? You should always have at least 2 ways to make fire. I personally have matches, a Bic lighter and a ferro rod in my buyout or get home bag. Thanks for watching.

Or just carry matches and a lighter...
@waveman06 ай бұрын
we all say that, but we also say carry a ferro rod and flint and steel, and practice with all of it. You should always have at least 3 ways to start a fire. Plus matches and lighters run out, and long term I would actually rely on my flint and steel set.

Matches and a lighter do work and I do carry them. But what if they get wet or run out of fuel? The rule is to have at least 3 ways to make fire. Thanks for watching.

@@jackofalltrades7822I carry a butane lighter, and an electronic lighter, as well matches. If I am in the woods cotton balls and alcohol are also in my pocket first aid kit. I do have a ferro rod but really can't imagine getting a flame with it in the pouring rain. Butane, cotton ball soaked in alcohol with maybe a wax hair ball will get any fire started.
