Well heck, you learn something new every day. Never heard of a descending device until today. Thank you for increasing my sphere of knowledge. Have a great weekend!

I have never heard of one of these descending devices. Very clever and is a great way to practice sustainable fishing. I’m glad you brought up the fish coming up from great depths with their air bladders hanging out. That’s another tool I wouldn’t have thought to buy for my fishing gear setup. Thanks

I love how they do this about every day but they still get so excited when they get a fish on the line!

Looks awesome, just made your panko breaded snapper with salsa again I used mahi this time everyone loves it. My little brother who doesn't really like fish loves it as well

I just got a descending device identical to yours. That is why I watched this. I got the device because statistics say, and my experience is close to these numbers, only 20% of red snapper survive with traditional venting. With a descending device survival is 80%. I will find out going forward if the latter is accurate. It is heartbreaking to watch a beautiful fish float away. Thanks for posting this video

Glad you are covering barrow trauma and the defending device. I wish they had one for fresh water. To many fish being released and killed due to barrow trauma. Walleyes being caught from 20 ft and deeper if released will die.

Definitely need one of these to try. We get alot of fish we want to release while jigging and without this device i don't know how u can correctly do it. Excellent thanks for the info and informative videos

You should rig an underwater camera to your descender line. Or even to some fishing rigs! Maybe a trolling rig

Looks great , just ordered one ,we currently use weight with a large barbless hook Like the idea of a lip grip system to limit damage to fishes mouth
@trouty79472 жыл бұрын
Also allows for auto release. I imagine it would actually be less reliable to use some hook based system. A win win situation!

We use it on a hand spool of dacron so its always ready without needing to be rigged to a rod. I dream of the day our Tog fisherman wake up and stop keeping all of those beautiful long lived fish!

slick device! I use the shelton one! I believe it is a requirement to have one of those devices if you are targeting reef fish. FWC is always surprising us!!!

How do you vent your fish?? And do y’all ever use y’all radar if so could y’all do a video on it like a tutorial?? Also can’t you hurt them by sending them down to fast so you would have to have the right sinker
@trouty79472 жыл бұрын
You hurt them by taking them up too fast, so the faster the better when repressurising them. However, it probably depends on how much force you apply to the lip continuously when descending if it's going to damage them. And you do this instead of venting. Venting is very harmful and kills the majority of fish it's used on, descending them this way actually saves the fish.

Ok.... we use this every trip in NorCal. It’s illegal to fish for rock fish greater than 100ft w/o one in our waters.... y’all on the east coast light years away from sustainable fishing, and your weather is always nice (don’t get why you guys complain all the time).

Soooo, that makes the decending device an 'unfishing' tool? Honey what did you do today? Oh ya know i spent part of it fishing and part of it unfishing. The questioner walks away with a strange queried look on their face. Lol

So when you bring up a fish. When his stomach is coming out his mouth. I don’t think releasing him back at 100 foot of water. Is going to matter
@jessepecor73112 жыл бұрын
It’s not the fishes stomach, it’s the swim bladder it’s a sac that fills with O2 to help the fish regulate its height in the water. It expands when the fish is brought up and contracts when it’s brought back to it capture depth so yes it helps. If you just released the fish it would float at the surface and suffocate.
@billstegall2639 Жыл бұрын
No it is their stomach. The air bladder pushes the stomach out.
@tonyzamora2583 жыл бұрын
Catch it, then immediately release it and worry about hurting it because you caught it, and try to release it at the depth you caught it. But its already been pulled from its preferred depth and out the water not breathing. Am I the only one thinking whats the point of doing any of it.
@trouty79472 жыл бұрын
Probably are the only one. You're right that you've already hurt the fish, but doing this gives it a solid chance of surviving. If you just chuck it back in the water, it's as good as dead most of the time.
