This is my favorite channel on KZbin. I really appreciate the way that you both explain and demonstrate different fishing techniques. I have never fished the east coast or the gulf. But I watched the video you did about navigating the intercoastal waterway. That was outstanding, ya'll did a excellent job at it. Thank you both for the great videos. 🤠👍

Love your videos Catching Ballyhoo is one thing I think more important is finding them. I would really like to see a video that is dedicated to finding bait, what structure to look for, and what strategies work better than others.

The sabiki is basically what we use out here on the west coast to catch herring when they migrate into the bay. Love the channel! found you guys last month when we took a vacation to Marathon.

In Northeast Brazil, we eat fried ballyhoos as appetizers. They're delicious together with beer. We call it "agulha" (meaning needle fish)

You ladies are doing a really nice job with your instructional videos. Keep it up. BTW the sabiki method also works great when the ballyhoo are at the surface. Instead of a sinker, attach a float (preferably lightly weighted like a kite float so you can throw it a distance) and then just bail the baits.

A variation of the single hook method is with a fly rod. Nice and delicate presentation. I've heard a small gold bare hook as all that's needed but I've never seen that work. A tiny bit of squid on that hook I've seen work though.

It’s a fairly new concept, it works well for people that aren’t good at throwing a cast net. Also, people say ballyhoo swim faster than the cast net can sink

In Australia they call this fish Garfish. In New Zealand it's called Piper. Very tasty when fried. Better than most fish it is used as a bait.

Our method up here on Lake Michigan is buying our ballyhoo frozen 🥶 usually already in strips. Wish we could get whole live ballyhoo!!

@@matthewwimpey7220 Our Fuel here is the highest $ in the country. And most of our boats get 1nmpg or less. It’s cheaper to just pay the $80 to fill it up and go. They even have bait for us in the winter. I guess it would be a different story if our bait spots were more predictable.

On the stability if you grab the line tight like you guys are it’s terrible for unhooking. Give it a bit of slack and you won’t bounce so many on the deck

@@jameskoch7190 Yes there is. Frozen squid do not swim. We can buy frozen here as well. I often if time permits just jig up some squid. Live squid are the best bait available here for many species. 🍻

When I'm fishing for sturgeon bait, we aren't allowed to use a net or more than one hook in the river so its one at a time. In the tidal portion on the river you can use 2 hooks but still no net...

I have one more method you don't know: the bread and jig method. You mix bread with water in a bowl, throw some bread to the water, and jig the fish up.

what i do on a day like that where they stay back i will untie off of the mooring balls we have here in fort lauderdale and i will drift back to them then throw the net on them. thats another thing you could try.
