Been using simulators since 2008. Originally the About Golf tech which was camera and laser then high speed camera tech and more recently Trackman and GC3. Use AoA and club to path quite a bit on Trackman and enjoy how the software communicates this with the Optimiser to better understand how I can improve my delivery. For me a fairly neutral to slightly 1-2 degree in-to-out path I need to feel like I am swinging 45* out to right field. Find the ball and club head + strike data helps to correlate the feel and real and enables more effective practice.

I'm someone who is an decent level golfer but for several reasons recently I've actually been playing more sim golf than real golf at the moment, that combined with using online video coaching has made my knowledge of sim and sim numbers pretty good. I'm in your Pro category but as Trackman doesn't use closure rate it's not a number I'm so familiar with. Actually one of the numbers i really pay attention to, especially with irons, is 'Low Point Distance", but that's a Trackman only number.

Well done presentation. If we only knew this information 20 plus years ago. I used to work with Ben Witter. He was Carl Wolters coach. I remember doing the speed training session similar to what is talked about today. At the time no one really knew the affects of spin and a lot of those data points. Back then it was all clubhead speed and distance. I personally am in the pro category. I know what they are and what they're measuring. It's making changes to get the numbers where they need to be that's the hard part.

Ok Martin I am with you now. Been watching your stuff a while, you just gave me value and info, new Sub! Had my sim 18 months, consider my self an analytical old dude at 66. Long drive stuff not much interest for me as I just hurt myself trying to, lol But using most of the info you just shared, i took 16 strokes off my game, hit it further and straighter ever in my life. Technology fixed me after a lifetime of being terrible 😂😂 Closure rate never even looked! My swing speed doubt it matters!

Great visuals Marty. I know the sims you use don’t measure shaft deflection, but when I discovered the GEARS measures I was shocked to see how toe droop (even > 50mm) changes where the driver clubface is at impact. Maybe for a next video (Super Geek Pro level)?

Fantastic Presentation!!! As a lower handicapper, I gained leaps and bounds when I was taught on a Trackman about *Club Path, Face Angle, Face to Path and Angle of Attack* These are the MAIN four factors that dictate your shot shape. These got me to that next level of near scratch playing. They helped me understand what was going wrong on my significant miss hits. I am not quite advanced enough to worry too much about spin dynamics....but the idea of Closure Rate seems SUPER interesting to me.

You never lost me. Like to go deeper on dynamic loft. That appears to be my weakness. I've got idea club path, positive angle of attack, But, to much dynamic loft, and that's leading to higher than desirable spin. I'd like to get into the swing mechanics of what is causing that. I'm pretty sure that I'm loosing the crazy lag I used to have. But not sure how to get that back.
@jeffclover1203

You never lost me. I'm a 14HC who like many struggle with a slice. I'm primarily focused on: swing path, face angle (face to path), and ball speed (which with driver is getting my smash factor higher). I'm trying to get driver ball speed >160. Here's my issue - MOST of us amateurs can't afford the fancy launch monitors/golf sims to give us accurate data - so what do we do?

Hi Martin, Very well explained. Could you also explain how a high speed camera (like gc4) simulator compares to a dopler device (like trackman and flightscope). Which is more accurate. And how does flightscope measure clubheadspeed? I seem to have higher clubheadspeed on flightscope than on trackman.
