Thank you for posting this. I just asked my friend who is a professional artist of 46 years. I went to the same Tech/trade HS as him. We both took commercial art. I took this as my main course from 1977-80. I forgot how to even use this type of eraser properly. Thank you for sparking my memory back. I plan to use this to remove rust from old rusty staples. From a early Silver age issue of the amazing Spider-Man and replace the staples with clean ones. From another reader copy close to the same year to restore the comic a bit.

Just be careful where you press the kneaded eraser onto the comic book as it will likely remove colored ink and could damage the soft paper if it is weak! Thanks for sharing your memories with me, it was fun to read!

This was great! So easy to understand. I've just got into drawing/art; I'm using coloured pencils and seen so many artists on KZbin include a kneadable art eraser in their list of recommended items, so I bought one, but none have actually shown themselves using one or explained how to use it! I just tried for the first time, using it like a normal eraser (obviously 😂) and it didn't work (...obviously 😂) and then headed straight to Google where this video was the first search result. Brilliant! Thank you! I'm going to see what other videos you have now :)

I am very much starting from very little, with having occasionally dappled into drawing, on and off throughout my teens/20's. I am now taking it more seriously though, and have been learning mostly from KZbin videos, and I cannot believe how much I have improved over a couple of weeks, from just learning some 'basic' knowledge/tips. Ah, in ceramics those are called calipers and in drawing, you can also use drawing "proportional dividers" which work that same way! But hey, stiff scissors work, too! Just make sure the points don't dent your paper because the graphite won't get in those dents & will leave a white pock mark. Here are some proportional dividers, I like plastic vs the metal as they are lighter and don't dent the paper as easily: amzn.to/3p4t63W

Yes you can use it for years, even. I discard mine when it is black or when it no longer stretches out and just tears/crumbles. Yes! They might be labeled as "ink" erasers or colored pencil erasers. I like the Tombow Sanded Eraser, here's a review. @@Lzmstudio Thanks for your reply. As it happens I just ordered 4 sand erasers this afternoon (I am in the UK...cheaper to import from japan, believe it or not..)They seem to get good reviews. I go heavy with drawing, I end up with dense layers of fat 8B graphite and mars plastics etc tend to skid and smear across rather than cut. The one I already have (worn away after 2 days use) wasnt a mono sand one, but very similar I think. It cuts heavy graphite instantly and clleanly, using just light pressure removes part of the layers to reduce a black to a grey etc. It also will take graphite (and charcoal) just by dipping and dabbing. I.m not worried if it affects or alters the paper. I like the fact it adds tooth to the surface, very useful to develop dense textures I'll be keen to see how the sand erasers perform for me. Thanks for your time PS have you tried derwent "dark onyx" or "dark wash" pencils?
@Lzmstudio4 жыл бұрын
GOLDSMITHEXILE 2016 no I haven’t tried those. I’ll add them to my list! If you aren’t looking to make gestural/expressive marks with a regular polymer eraser it will eventually cut through the sneakiness of graphite- only with scrubbing though so not ideal for making beautiful marks with an eraser. I checked our your channel- you might even try some fine grit sandpaper since I assume you have that lying around 😊
@GOLDSMITHEXILE4 жыл бұрын
@@Lzmstudio They are really very good for dense blacks, not too slimy, not too gritty, work fantastic on a toothy surface, and are water soluble (although I never bother with that..) I do sometimes use 180 grit and/pr wire wool to cut down layers of charcoal or graphite, usually to eradicate or rebuild a drawing. I tired 40 grit once but it was too much for the paper and started to tear it apart

I assume you mean how long will the kneaded eraser last? It depends on how much graphite/charcoal you remove with it. The more you remove, the faster it stops working. You will see it gets dark and there is no stretch to it after it is saturated with charcoal/graphite. That is when it is time to get a new one. Or if your dog/cat hair or pencil shavings stick in it, get a new one!

It doesn't dry out but needs to be mixed each time you use it. Some brands come with a case- like this one- kzbin.info/www/bejne/j37YYYelo5iDmck or you can find a small tin or plastic bag to use for any other brand to keep the eraser from collecting pencil shavings and debris. Thanks for watching!

Good grief, I only guessed at how to use these. Funny, my current discipline right now is to draw with a PaperMate 1.0 med. pen, which has a light to dark ratio that's extraordinary. I draw fast and tiny portraits from my imagination and am done in 3 minutes. I mean tiny. So, no erasing, but I never find myself approximating...just moving. It feels unusually creative and it gets better .When I screw up, I turn it into another face. Now I know what Giacometti was up to with his model portraits. He wasn't doing just one. He was finding his zone.

Couple questions: 1. Any brand to recommend? The one that I have is not so doughy like that. No price point. 2. Will oily fingers mess up the longevity of the eraser? How long do they last in general? 3. Is this toxic? I SOoo want to chew it. Kidding, kidding (not kidding) 🙄
@Lzmstudio Жыл бұрын
hi! 1. check out my comparison, it tells you my favorite the last few years kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHu4mKpmgdWil8U 2. they last until they have absorbed so much graphite/charcoal they start to kind of fall apart/not stretch, but the more they absorb, the less they can absorb- so their utility goes down over time. 3. I have no idea if it's toxic, but I don't recommend chewing it- haha! I do recommend building tiny dragons out of it and having fun, tho!
