I love the suggestion for converting a normal leash to a two point leash using a carabiner! I was about to spend money on a new leash - I will definitely try this first. :) Thank you!

I bought my lab a K9 harness, the bottom hook was the one I used but it started to get loose so I used the upper but didn't like it as much. I actually until I got a replacement used 2 leashes and twisted them together to walk him with both metal rings in case the bottom loosened more. . I realized I liked using both. This will make it much easier when I get the new harness.

I think the combination of the Australian Shepherd which is used to running at high speeds and rounding up things and beagle mix makes her nose so strong all she wants to do is look out and smell she doesn’t even watch where she’s going she’s literally driven by her nose

any dog can learn to pay attention to the handler while walking on the leash. You may need to seek out help from an experienced dog trainer in your area

I never leash trained my previous Bulldog (2002-2016). She just never seemed to mind it and it was never an issue. Well. Now I have a Pit-Husky mix at about 7 - 8 weeks old. After my experience with the Bulldog, I don't think I'd even heard of leash training, and expected no problems. Lol He immediately dug all four paws into the ground and refused to go with me on the leash. So I'm looking up leash training on KZbin. Right now his level of cooperation is right at 0%. . Lol The training lesson in this video anticipated the dog pulling ahead. Our issue is the exact opposite where he digs in and refuses to go anywhere with me with the leash on. So I'm going to let him drag it around as recommended in the video.

@@mcsdog thanks, lol. We've had some promising steps forward with both potty training and the leash. With a harness, he's walking with me just right, until he isn't. He'll stop and dig in when we have a disagreement on what direction we're going... all things considered, it's been going A LOT better than I had imagined.

As I mention in many of our videos, no equipment will stop your dog from pulling on the leash, you must teach your dog to walk next to you. Any dog can learn to walk calmly on a loose leash. You can check out our training videos on how to teach your dog to do this.
@Pugggle3 ай бұрын
The halti harness didn't work for my lab, same problem as you I was just pulled about like a husky pulling a sleigh, but the nose halti works a treat. The harness doesn't have any actual control and "consequence " over the dog they just pull against it .

I rescued a pitbull last June it is now March and she was used to a collar which I don't agree of so I bought a walk in harness. I use with both of my dogs but my pitbull is a puller and her harness got too tight so I bought a new harness that has a hook at the chest and a hook at the backside. I don't know how to walk her using this

OK that’s not gonna work for an Australian Shepherd that’s a year old and when it sees a dog it’s so excited it stands at its hind legs and 65 pounds plus pulls me as hard as she can I’ve used to stop her I have used vibration to stop her I have pulled with all my mite and I’m 65 years old I need help this is not working
@mcsdog Жыл бұрын
We've trained dogs for over 40 years and have trained all kinds of powerful pullers. the harness or collar will not stop a dog from pulling, it's the habit of following the person rather then having the person follow the dog. Start your training indoors or in the back yard and teach the dog to follow you.
@harbor0771610 ай бұрын
You are me exactly! My pup pulls and coughs like she's trying to choke herself. Gets distracted by everything and if she sees people or another dog, she's up on her hind legs trying to walk. I'm 65 also and took her in as a stray. Silly me!! I'm going to try this method with the 2 leash set up. I've just GOT to get her to understand she's not the leader of the pack, and weve got endless time to walk slowly. She's a sniffer too so it like a walking with a vacuum cleaner at top speed!! Lol

Get a Halti no pull chest harness AND Halti no pull mouth harness. Then get yourself a 2 link leash like the one in this video. And I GUARANTEE it will stop your dog, it worked on all of my dogs and they would tear my rotator cuff out before this when they saw other dogs. Immediate change in behaviours as soon as it went on, I kid you not.
@Pugggle3 ай бұрын
@@bryanp4652 this exactly. Only thing that helped me train my dog . Harnesses alone for pullers doesnt work.

It's easy to do with a dog like the one in the video. Try it with a 23kg staffie pulling your arm off! Sorry, not a real situation.

We've trained dogs for over 30 years and have taught thousands of dogs to walk on a loose leash. It's possible. Start at home, without distractions. Here is how: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZbdfJVtnJqbetE

You need a longer lead. I have a 55lbs husky. I don’t know the exact conversion but I think that’s roughly 26kg. She would pull and pull, a pretty key part of it is sort of “snapping” the tension You want to time the u turn so you’re not just pulling them back to you but if your dog is pulling very heavily they are sort of yanked. Don’t look back at the dog when you do the turn. So your dog starts to walk ahead, turn, don’t look back at the dog and sort of yank them back. So if the lead is already fully extended with tension it won’t work well. If your dog’s pulling is a massive issue you may need to use an e collar or slip lead. Pretty heavy research is recommended into proper usage the point isn’t to harm the dog but if the dog is pulling to continuously and too dramatically for you to do the yank when you do the u turn you will need another method to communicate to them it’s time to turn. I recommend an e collar as it’s safer but make sure you aren’t harming your pup it’s more of a light pop to break their attention and cause discomfort so they turn around.

I’m not a professional dog trainer by any means by the way I’ve just trained my husky and two malamutes and one Norwegian elk hound to walk to heel. It also takes a long while. I needed to use 15 foot leashes (5 meters) to time the tension snapping. I had to use an e collar for the older malamute

You can get a bungee style leash, which allows for a little stretch and also helps with pull impact.
