How to use a rotary polisher for the beginner

If your leaving holograms your being too aggressive . Slow down your machine speed , use a different pad and you should be fine .

The temp reading were a nice touch, smoking the paint was not expected. That cordless rotary is really nice tool and using the new Playmaker is interesting. Can you do something on polishing metal like SS? If polishing it does it always turn pads black even if clean?

Thanks for the comment and kind words, try to show you guys in the best way possible. As for your suggestion we will get on it and yes even if the metal is clean it will turn your pads black a little bit. Nature of the beast lol!

I bought a rotary and feel like I should have bought a dual action because I now have holograms. What can I do? Can I get them out with a rotary?

Use a fine pad and a fine polish. Also use a low speed. If you have holograms you’re being too aggressive. That being said it’s fine to be aggressive and leave holograms if you follow up with a fine pad and polish as I mentioned. It’s called a 2 step correction. 1st step is an aggressive step to remove defects. 2nd step is to remove holograms and “love marks” from the first step. This leaves a great finish.

Also rotary’s are just as good as dual action polishers if not better. But they have a steeper learning curve

You can finish with rotary using a soft pad and fine polish almost no pressure no holograms.

Da polishers are NOT good for old hard Mercedes solvent base paints. Takes way too long.

Buy better pads, the one that came with my dewalt shed like crazy. Lake Country purple foamed wool pad finish nicer and shed significantly less.

Lightly run a pointed piece of wood on the spinning side that will flick away from you (right side if upside down) and shed some fluff before use. That's what we do at the marina anyway hope it helps
