How To Use a Seam Ripper to Remove BAD Quilting |Hand Embroidery Progress Update!

Hey, Everyone! Here is a fun update on what I've been working on this past week! I've been using my trusty seam ripper to pull out all the quilting stitches from my Cozy Picnic quilt so I can make another attempt at doing some beautiful free-motion quilting on it. Yay! I also get to show you my progress on my hand embroidery project which, honestly, has been SO much fun and low pressure to work on!

I don't know any other way to do it. That is how I did mine. I just learned this, and it works really well: If your seam ripper has a rubber end, running it crossed the little threads, it will pull them right out. Then the lint remover picks them right up. Glad to see you are getting done

I really enjoy your videos! I'm new to sewing and your explanations are easy to follow and your enthusiasm is motivating. I also enjoy special appearances by your cats. I've had to do a lot of seam ripping - ugh - sometimes two or three times on the same piece. I recently bought an embroidery kit to make little Christmas mitten ornaments and have not mastered the French knot. But I agree the process is therapeutic.

Seam ripping can be pretty annoying, but how cool is it that we can actually remove the stitches and try again! It's all part of the learning experience. And yes! I love those embroidery kits! Thank you for sharing your tips & knowledge. I do have a tip for you. When you are getting all the small sections of the seam ripped, try a lint roller. It works great.

I recently tried glue basting on a couple of smaller quilts. It was great. It is now my favorite way to baste.

I found a quilt that I made...quilt sandwich...back in 2011. I didn't know about the quilting foot. There were bad puckers and no even stitch. I just picked them out and plan to finish it this week. Thanks for your encouragement with your videos.

Aw, your seam ripping helper 😊 Yes, beading needle eyes are so so tiny. I swear it gets better with practice. I actually hate french knots and often replace the called for french knots with beads in cross stitch now, lol.

I used to get that type of migraine. The sparkly circle in your vision is an ocular migraine. I still get the visual disturbance occasionally, but it's usually not accompanied by the actual migraine headache anymore.

When you get the aura, take a migraine headache medicine as quickly as possible. You will still get a bit of a headache, but it will not be as bad.

Funny thing I just put 2 rows of a quilt together and I'm not liking the busy look of it. I was just deciding if I would rip some blocks out and replace them with a plain color or maybe just white. Seam ripping and replacing it is. You might want to have your eyes checked. Sometimes migraines like that relate to eye problems. Glad your feeling better!

Thank you! I probably should. It’s been a few years since my last eye exam lol 🫣 I’ve been there with realizing fabrics aren’t working together! Thank goodness it’s not a HUGE problem to replace fabrics.

Oooooh, so you DID rip out your quilting! I've been wondering about your quilt☺️ I have a seam ripper with a rubbery tip on the lid that's great for grabbing those small threads that are left after you do the satisfying pull of the long thread on the other side😅 I've often wondered if an eraser would do the same job? I'm really pleased you are still going to do your circular quilting design - it was cool. I look forward to the further progress 💞

The beading needle..... Yes, they have a tiny, tiny eye so as to go through the little seed beads. And they ARE a nightmare to thread😂😂😂 Finer thread is the only answer. But I love your French knots - perfect solution😉👌

Yes! The instructions said to use one strand of the embroidery floss that came in the kit and I could NOT see how that would work lol it would be pretty with the shimmer from the beads, but I quite like the French knots 🤓

@@StitchObsessed no, a strand of embroidery floss would be too thick. Some kind of mono filament thread or fine thread for appliqué is needed for those needles. Yes, I like the French knots too. And, like you, enjoy doing them - they are super satisfying😍

I've been wondering where you were on ripping that quilting out. Ughh, what a job! Some seam rippers have rubber on one end (think pencil eraser), and they say rubbing that tip along the broken stitches makes it a breeze. Oh Kimmie gave you the stink eye. How cute is she helping you pull that thread?

My seam ripper does have that little red ball on it; I’ll have to test it out! I also have some heavy duty lint rollers that will help a lot with getting those little threads. And yes! Oh my goodness that was so cute and unexpected with Kimmie 😂 she’s such a goofy kitty!

I'm working on the Ingrid's wildflowers kit from MSQC. When the embroidery is finished you get to sew the pieces together into a quilt. Double bonus in my crafty life!

Hope you get this message, you mention a migraine , but before you got the actual migraine you experienceed an weird ora things. These I've learned, are my warning sign that a migraine is on its way. I stop no matter what I'm doing and take 2 Excedrin extra strength.. Thirty years I've been doing this, no other medication needed ( for me ) Try it and see if you are lucky enough to have these warning signs so you can prevent your migraine. Looks for me, hope it works for you. I just love your videos.

I would rip out exactly the same as you do! So sorry about the migraine. I suffered with them for many years. Not fun at all. Glad it didnt last longer😊

My kitty helpurr got very interested when yours was helping with the thread. Question on handwork and cats....I find it hard to do handwork without having one or both of my helpurrs batting at the thread. I started a while back trying to work on hexi EPP. Great job on your embroidery!!@

Well luckily for me, Kimmie is an extremely lazy cat and sleeps ALOT 😂 you could always try giving them their own little piece of thread while you’re working 🤓
