Hey Kev, thanks for demistifying, how uh stud-finder works. I really like your tips. Small drill bit, if wood comes out, you know you've hit a stud. Go between 2 marks, left and right, and you even showed how to find a stud, without a stufld finder. Pretty cool, Kev. Thanks ( : Thumbs-Up 👍🏻🔥

Instead of using a drill bit to test the 2x4, I would use a very thin nail and gently hammer it in. One in the middle and one each about half an inch on either side.

is this only applicable to dry walls or i can use it to find wires or metal pipes inside brick walls ?
@woodworkfamily97879 ай бұрын
The stud finder in this video won't work on a brick wall because it is too dense. In fact exterior walls have too many layers for them to work. I'm not sure if there are any that are designed for these walls.
@rdorenegades58492 жыл бұрын
I think I found the stud because it was harder to drill into the wall. Can you give me feedback it’s also over the outlet
@woodworkfamily97872 жыл бұрын
That's one way to tell. Another is if you look at the tip of the drill bit and there is a little wood in the grooves.
@b.chaves110711 ай бұрын

I feel scared. I may be catching on slow but am I drilling my screw in between the marks where my stud finder beeped as you did I. The video? I do t want to get electrocuted. I know I should just hire a pro but I can’t afford that every time
@tracker48543 жыл бұрын
Sorry for this dumb question, but if I’m drilling something onto my wall, do I drill into the stud or on sides where it’s hollow?
@woodworkfamily97873 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. The goal of finding a stud is so we can drill into them. This will allow a better hold on your screw. If there is no stud where you want to put a screw you can use an anchor.

What about when you use this and the 1st 2 holes are to some sort of metal?
@woodworkfamily9787 Жыл бұрын
are you in a building that might have metal studs? they are typically used in industrial type buildings, like offices, etc. You would want to use sheet metal screws if this is the case. they make some with drill bits on the tip of the screws.

I'm putting bords up on a wall. Sometimes I miss my mark. If you got more than one bord going up, what is my best approach in finding the stud?
@woodworkfamily9787 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by you are putting boards up on your wall. Is it something like ship lap where there are a lot of horizontal boards being attached to a wall? I would find the studs first and then make a vertical mark with a level to be able to see the studs as you work. You may want to drill pilot holes to be sure first, and do this in at least three locations for each stud (top, middle, bottom).

@rdorenegades58492 жыл бұрын
What size bit did you use?
@woodworkfamily97872 жыл бұрын
The size depends on the screw you will be using. You want the bit to be the thickness of the shaft of the screw without the threads. You will be clearing out the wood for the screw to go in, but you still want the threads to grip the stud.

i might sound like an idiot, y cant i just drill something on the wall will it collapse if its not on the stud?
@woodworkfamily97872 жыл бұрын
If you want to hang something like a picture they make hangers that don't need a stud. Here is a link so you can see what I mean amzn.to/3QoQbZJ (you may need to paste it in the browser). But if you want to hang something heavier like a tv wall mount then finding a stud is required or else it will fall off the wall. This is a good question, thank you for it!

What is the difference between the setting deep scan and stud scan
@woodworkfamily9787 Жыл бұрын
With the "stud scan" setting we are scanning for studs behind drywall. This is typically 1/2" to 3/4" thick. With "stud deep scan" we are able to scan for studs up to 1-1/2" deep. This could be behind other surfaces (not wood). I'm thinking maybe a soundproofing for a music studio.

Never drill holes you do not need, doing so can weaken the integrity of the sheetrock
