When he said could be used as a weapon- instant smile. That's why I clicked. If there is an object, he has a way to make it a weapon.

I use flashlights like this one a LOT. One and off around between 50-75 times a night . WAY more than most people ever would. Gone through about 7 different models from cheap to around $150.00 . Here's what I have learned : 1)- The multi settings can be more hassle than they are worth. Most the time you just want a quick on/off and next thing you know you are clicking through strobes or can't get it to come on at all, or maybe you want it off and it's taking too long. So maybe look for single setting ones. 2)- High powered LED lights that use AA batteries have a sudden drop off in power from 100% to around 40% after semi-heavy use. There's no slow fade like with a regular bulb. It's a bit better with a rechargeable battery . But you can be using it and it instantly goes dim. From my research this does not happen with larger batteries. 3) - Thumb operated switches use springs and those springs can compress and stop making proper contact . Even good ones. So look for that, you may need give them a stretch. 4) - They all use computer chips, and all computer chips are buggy. One of my cheapo' s and my most expensive one both would do weird random stuff like just turn themselves on and drain the battery. Or just not turn on at all. Hope that's helpful. What I finally did was set one aside with fresh batteries , single setting , and that's my "Things go bump in the night " flashlight. I know exactly what it's going to do if I need it . Then I have several cheap ones in various places that I do heavy use with. On average I go through 2 AA batteries every 5 days even though the light gets maybe an hours worth of on time, its the constant on/off that does it I think.

I always carry a pocket light. With strobe. It's hard for someone to see, with a light in there face. Also a flashlight allows you To deploy, other tools. Or just to distract someone and create a window of time.

Exactly! in a night or low light setting this could be useful if not to deter an assailant, then to disorient and lower their strike accuracy.

It’s not a gun, obviously. But compared to bare knuckle boxing? Shit, it’s one of the best enhancements in a brawl

I used to carry one but would it got uncomfortable in my pocket so used to never take it with me. So I just store a baton tactical flash light in my car as its way more intimidating (rather scare them off than have to use it) and just have a tactical pen on my person. Knives and guns are illegal where I live.
