For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself.Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

tip for others, use a strait shaft instead of a curved shaft if your over 5 ft 10 inches tall.

And that’s why I only have one house to care for lol. Although admittedly since upgrading to my new Echo straight shaft trimmer I can breeze through the entire yard in minutes now it’s amazing what you can do with high quality equipment! It can trim as fast as I can walk without bogging down. That old ryobi had to go!

Lol 😂 yeah when you’re running commercial accounts you gotta move fast. I slowed down for the video to demonstrate things, but I definitely need to update this video one of these days now that I have my new straight shaft trimmer. So much easier to use than a curved shaft.
@whatisthis94954 жыл бұрын
So most of the time you want the grass to discharge toward you. This keeps clippings from getting in the beds, which is a major problem if dealing with overgrown lawn. Another plus when it’s discharging toward you is it now lies in the path of the mower so it can be easily mulched or bagged by the mower.

Chris Rudd some good tips! Only down side is your pants get more dirty I guess 😁 all personal preference I guess lol. Since I made this video I got a new trimmer and my new echo SRM225 has the head spinning the opposite direction from the curved shaft one you see here so it was a bit of a learning curve again. I should update this video again sometime. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@whatisthis94954 жыл бұрын
DIY Dad that’s good. Some go clockwise some counter clockwise. I run Stihl and they are counter clockwise. Just dedicate a pair of pants to cutting grass. Stuffs gonna fly up. I’d rather a rock hit me than hit a window in a house.

@whatisthis94954 жыл бұрын
eddyvideostar maybe, but when you have close to 200 accounts it’s kinda hard to inspect every inch of terrain. Well there’s always a right way and wrong way. Sure you can put a unidirectional tread tire on backwards and it work, but is it correct? Sure I could send grass clippings into people landscapes, but to a professional and a homeowner that actually cares about the lawn, it looks like crap . Yes I would rather my leg get hit by a rock then have to replace someone’s window, not only does that look unprofessional in some circumstances, but it’s a costly repair that I’d rather avoid.

Great video and exactly what I needed! I've wanted to get my hands on the weed-wacker (string trimmer) for years but trying to watch the lawn guy to figure it out was impossible! Kudos to the lawncare pros out there...y'all make it look soooo easy! However our machine has a really long straight pole (Echo SRM-230) but I'm hoping it is still the same technique. THANKS A MILLION!
@DIYDad14 жыл бұрын
Jessica Knearem the straight shaft trimmers are actually a lot easier to use especially for flipping it over for edging compared to a curved shaft trimmer. The weight distribution is a little different so it takes some getting used to but it’s not too bad once you get the hang of it! Just go slow the first couple of times. I’ll have to do an updated video one of these days since I got my new echo srm-225. Glad this video was helpful!

I keep breaking the string! What am I doing wrong?
@DIYDad12 жыл бұрын
That happens a lot when you’re running it along concrete foundations or edging brick or chain link fence. I go through a lot of string when I’m doing edging along my driveway. Before you respool the line next time soak it in a bucket of water overnight it helps the line stay more flexible. Besides that just don’t go full throttle all the time. “Feather” in the speed and use just enough power to get the grass to cut. Sometimes going full speed ahead just burns up line like crazy. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@_triciagreene2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYDad1 I appreciate you replying to me. I've used one before. There is no string showing anymore. Does that mean I need to buy more or is there string still in there, somewhere? 🤷♀️
@DIYDad12 жыл бұрын
@@_triciagreene it’s probably out. The trimmer string that it comes with won’t usually last that long. Most of them have a bump head, you bump the head on the ground and it feeds more line through the holes. Every trimmer head is different, but most of them have some sort of cap that unscrews on the end that you can load more line with. What type of trimmer do you have?

@DIYDad12 жыл бұрын
@@_triciagreene ok so I looked up that model and if it’s the one I think it is, it should automatically feed more like every time you pull the trigger on it since it’s electric it’s kind of a lower powered trimmer. Those black and decker ones are sort of the exception to the rule lol. The head pops apart and I believe you can get cartridges for it that have the string pre-wound and ready to go you just pop it in and away you go. Check the exact model number that you have to make sure it’s compatible but I “think” this is what you need for replacement line. BLACK+DECKER Trimmer Line, 30-Foot, 0.065-Inch, 3-Pack (AF1003ZP) www.amazon.com/dp/B00004R9TL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HZ5Z5JW8CNGX8BVKDHX9 or something similar on Amazon of a different brand. You should be able to find the model number printed on a sticker on the top or underside of the unit.
