Very helpful. I have two and I guess I have been lucky and not gotten shocked, but I learned something today.

I primarily use the Fluke T+Pro which is pretty much a modern Wiggy. I love it because I work in a hospital with some circuits prone to ghost voltages and the Fluke T+Pro doesn't pick these up. It's a dummy proof tester.

I have a Knopp. Have had it for 25+ years or so. The probe holder on the unit is a little different, but pretty much the same otherwise. My first Wiggy was an Ideal from 1978, that walked away one day. George P. Wigginton invented the solenoid voltmeter in 1918,

Interesting I didn't know when the first one was invented. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day ☺

Thanks for the video. I guess that explains why years ago I used my Knopp checking a light socket on an outside circuit and it kept popping the GFCI but if I used my Fluke 115 it would not happen.

You can perform the same test with a dmm. The lead opposite the hot lead will still have voltage on it. Will it not? I just did your same experiment with a Fluke 323 and the free air lead registered voltage with a tic tracer. Saying you can hold the opposite probe with a digital meter is just wrong.

I beg to differ you may get residual voltage on the other lead but a shocking voltage I haven't ever seen

Used a wiggy all the time when I was younger but haven't used one in years.

Wiggy is great tool for Appliance repair, because a DMM will show the true voltage on a relay as for the wiggy will show voltage... so there you go...
