I’ve just watched about 4 videos, all explaining how to use an expanding foam gun. Complete novice here, 70 year old woman with a few gaps around my bungalow. I think I know how to use the stuff now, but when I watched your video, it was a masterclass in communication! You, sir are a real teacher. No nonsense, no silly jokes, lots of helpful tips I can use, and fully comprehensive explanations for every step of the way. I thank you, and I’m going to get going tomorrow. I shall make a list of all the little places as I go around the property and do each one, as I’ve only got the cheap one from a local hardware store, so when I’ve don’t all the filling, I won’t be able to use the gun again. I don’t have the cleaner, but I think it will be enough. Really appreciate you taking the time to be such a great teacher.

One huge tip he didn't mention is that after you unscrew an old can and put a new can on you must spray enough foam to cycle out any air trapped. Also never store the gun if it just sputtered always store it after a smooth bead has came out with no air or it will dry and you will be buying a new gun. I just use a rag with lacquer thinner to clean the tip and nozzle.

Exactly. I realized that the hard way. My can near empty before weekend. The wee bit of air in there gummed it up. I also wonder if purging gun with the acetone can, if that should be held with can right side up, unlike shown in this video. I couldn't get another gun to purge so in desperation I quickly screwed on another full foam can and it came around fortunately.

That was really top notch instructional video! Obviously it's a simple topic but seeing and hearing all that so clearly explained will help me a lot when I go to try this. Not knowing these basics is where things get messed up. I do think there's room for another video dedicated more to application techniques with this medium.

Very helpful, especially about screwing the cans on tight. Helpful to know how to clean the gun through. You can remove cans safely even when half full. . They have pressure valves. Cleaning takes time. . You'll get lots of coloured foam coming out before the cleaner runs clear. Good ventilation is essential.

I’ve done all these things to a t and somehow the spray foam when putting on the cage quickly still continues to spray foam in the cage. I take it off quickly and clean the cage and foam can with gun cleaner and it all looks 100% clean. But air bubbles mixed with foam gun cleaner are coming from the ball inside the cage. Meaning it’s leaking air or not sealing properly when the van is screwed on. How do I fix?

Keeping a small jar of Vaseline to coat the tip and the adapter cage really helps prevent cured foam from building up, and assists with clean up. If anyone knows where to get parts for these, please drop a link.

Gerat video, very useful. However, it doesn't tell you how to remove the little black wheel when it's completely stuck on the can. After 15 minutes of cursing and attacking the wheel witth a variety of sharp implements and liberal sprays of GT85 the wheel is now off the can, but is completely mangled, and I probably need a new gun now.

One tip I learned from one of the gun manufacturers was to coat every area that might contact the foam (this is on the gun I am referring) with Vaseline. I do the threads on the can, the can receiver on the gun and all the way down the nozzle. Basically, I brush it on with a small brush like a plumbers acid brush, everywhere but the handle and trigger. The nozzle I reapply as I go and wipe the end. My guns have never been cleaner!

I purchased a set of three simple plastic nozzle extensions. About 4 inches long, one end pressure fit over gun nozzle, the other a "fan" exhaust about .5 inches by by 2.5 inches . I trimmed the three to different lengths giving them different exhaust dimensions, 3/4", 1.25", and 2". Works great, just keep them clean with lacquer thinner or foam cleaner.
