I mainly use Anim Layers to group select active controls because I usually forget all the controls I have keyed. Its cool to see it a bit more in-depth

For some reason when I duplicate my base layer, it doesn't transfer any of the animation from the base layer to make it additive, it just makes an empty anim layer. (Yes I did it exactly as you showed, I don't know why it does that).

Is there a way to key frame different strengths on a single layer. For example, frames 1-24 (zero strength), but at frames 25-48 (100 strength)?

Yes! Beside the slider there's a little 'k' button, this is how you key the strength of the layer ☺️

I am duplicating the BaseAnimation layer, but it is just creating an empty layer with the name BaseAnimation_copy, I can't create a layer with the same information. Has it ever happened to you ? I am trying to animate a squirrel (a ball with ears and a tail) and wanted to separate everything into layers so I could concentrate on each part separately. Would someone help me? I am using Maya 2018.

With the layer selected, go up to the layers menu to select the node, it should pop up in your graph editor after that :)

Found it, thanks much! Could get it only when had unlocked BaseAnimation layer. Seems the curve lives in Base layer, not in upper ones which weights are going to be controlled?

Looks like there is only one weight curve for all the top layers? Initially I thought that every added layer has its' own weight control.

Now it works for every layer, not quite sure how it turned on but I'll clear it up. Maybe would be nice if you'll shoot a little lesson upon setting up access to weight curves for multiple layers as far as youtube gives no one or maybe not too many to be easily found)

I found the clue, in my case you have to set up all curves, save the file and relaunch Maya - only then curves become visible)
