Thanks for the videos! I'm just getting started and your insights are indispensable! I'm using BasicCAM with a MacBook Air. For some reason I can't figure out how to select a shape and "Drag" it around the workspace. When I try to drag it just rotates the 3D view rather than sliding the shape to another location. I have a trackball mouse (from my AutoCAD days) and have tried every key combo I can think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a great question... I dont recall one.. but double check with bobscnc support. They are always taking suggestions to improve the software.

Have 2 questions if I can ask here? First, how, if possible, to engrave a word with a single pass of the v bit. The engraving is always following 2 lines which leaves "wood" in between the engraved lines. Hope this makes since. I would like to engrave words where the bit follows a single line. Second question, how to slow the trave speed of the spindle. I feel my spindle is moving too fast for the engraving. The engraving is fast causing it to be loud and vibrates the machine. Thank you for your time.
@WoodenCreationz Жыл бұрын
Great questions.... I will do my best to answer them.. You can do one pass with a Vbit. To do that you would have to tell the machine you want to do a really shallow pass. Let me explain, if you want to do a deeper pass, the software will calculate multiple passes because a deep pass shouldnt be done in one pass.. its just too much for the bit to handle. So yes a really light pass could be done by setting the depth really shallow. But after you see it... well you will probably say.. hmm that should have been deeper so just dont move the board and run it again by making the depth deeper. .1 inches is a great place to start for a vcarve letter. Not sure what your inches per minute (speed you are running the cnc at) But try running at 100inches per minute. If its a hard wood, try backing it off to maybe 60-80. If you think its rattling, well it shouldnt, with it off try jiggling it and see if its loose.. if so retighten things.. It should be really stiff... Also blue locktite helps on the nuts and bolts to keep it from breaking free in the future. Hope that helps... Enjoy! Again.. Feel free to reach out of Bobscnc Help support if I missed anything or you need better clarification.. They are amazing over there. I dont work for them, or claim to know all. I just enjoy helping them make videos. Thanks -Brian

I stumbled on this, and was like, ok, router software for $350 with some subscription cost, but a bummer that they have you by the coconuts by not allowing local storage. I worked for some CAD CAM companies that are well known now, and the quite expensive certainly is relative! I assume this is router specific or 2d machining related which is understandable to not need complex multiaxis and robot automated M/T centers with virtual environments etc. I guess I am just happy to hear that the under multi-thousand dollar option is a thing, but to not take away negative impressions of the top shelf options out there it is fair to say that the complexity and bandwidth from a small business to aerospace corporation is a very different animal, so not a good comparison. Just thought I'd comment, got thrown off by the "very expensive" comment regarding the 350, lol, 😯.....and I'm not poking fun, just such haven't heard that number in that context with CAM stuff. Believe me, I wouldn't want to push out a few hundered either for any software, and at the least they should not hold your projects hostage to leverage maintenance costs for software. That seems criminal to me. Low blow with that low cost, so I guess in time and intellectual property you are paying much more than a low front. Shame on the guys running a software op with your data held ransom. Geez. Well happy machining and keep up good educational videos!
@WoodenCreationz Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yeah it frustrates me the software's that hold your files and don't let you get to keep them. That was why bob wrote this one. Yeah the bobs cncs are great options getting started for the first time or just looking for something bigger and an affordable option. Appreciate the comment.
