Sometimes I think I will loose my mind trying to learn dutch. But is the exact same reason why I found it so fun. No word in spanish has so many meannings or uses. Thanks for the lesson. It may take me forever to be able to use "bij" but now I know what it could mean.

Hallo Allain, I keep on watching your videos everytime. Even though I am at level b1 still not confident to make sentences sometimes. I’m gonna ask if the €.99 for the membership is that you can have written exercises in all videos you made or only in a especific videos only , or in every video you need to pay ? Thanks

Hi, I've made only some exercises for some videos. If you're looking for written exercises, I'd recommend you to buy my books: - Dutch grammar for beginners via Amazon: amzn.to/3AhKEOu - Intermediate Dutch Grammar via Amazon: amzn.to/3LLwNpY

In Afrikaans we have the word by. Means exactly the same (even for the bee 🐝) So I find this one actually comes very natural.

Thank you for this video!! Can you please explain the difference between 'bij' and 'met'? I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Thanks!!
@LearnDutchwithAlain4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Francine. 'Bij' is 'in the vicinity of, near' and 'met' is 'with'. For example: 'Kom je bij ons?' = Are you coming at our place or in our team?, 'Kom je met ons' = do you come with us, are you coming along. Hope it's more clear now.

isn't it pronounced closer to English "bye"? (maybe it's different in the Netherlands?)
@LearnDutchwithAlain Жыл бұрын
Pronunciations are different in regions, especially for the ij. But bye sounds to me more like 'baai' in Dutch, meaning bay.

Dag Mat, you can say both 'ik koop iets bij/in AH.' With geweest: 'ik ben bij Aldi geweest' it means 'at.' With in, it means 'inside the building of Aldi.' Bij is the concept, in is 'inside.'
