Great Video. We haul a lot of giant spools of Cable, and get frustrated when just as your ratchet gets to within a couple of turns of bottoming out, a chain link slips and then slackens. Then you gotta unwind the ratchet and reset the hook. Tried a couple of snap binders but came close to getting smashed in the mouth, so I don't use them anymore. Keep up the great video's.

One thing I’ve always been told and I believe is true, there’s no such thing as over securement
@garypierce73805 жыл бұрын
I would go around that entire load with straps on the front and back to cinch the inside as tight as possible. You're right about overdoing that load so it doesn't come through your cab on a harsh brake.
@garypierce73805 жыл бұрын
Con with snap binders, seems they're either too tight to close or too loose to be worth a damn.
@williamdelarge24914 жыл бұрын
Good point Gary. I agree, cinch when you have an overhang. If you have the room on the deck with no overhang , make a bulkhead with your dunnange . Or cross chain the front of the load with chains. Amazing how easily steel especially I beam or plate wants to go forward through your cab.

Couple issues I had with snap binders , securing beams from the ground downward excessive tight when finally got it unlocked the bar twerling 30 feet in air. Had push unloadet out of danger. Also met another driver who had no dunnage to load, snap was tight but under hard get bar on it. I stuck bar under to get access to snap handle which was pulled by hand by the other driver rusulting in his broken arm. Also after unloading and resecuring dunnage I watch I don’t park next to other vehicles with possible bar can get away don’t want through a car window.

But that’s just my personal preference. Good video ! 👍🏼 👍🏼 But i gotta ask. . what’s with the orange seat belt in your truck dude ? looks like is a load binder strap

Great video. I need your help here with some terminology - specifically cheater bars. I noticed that you used a combination bar to tighten the lever binder in your video. The following quote is from the US Cargo website. " Because lever binders require so much strength, drivers are often tempted to use a cheater bar to help tighten and release the handle. Using a cheater bar increases the risk of injury. If the driver loses his or her grip, the lever and bar can snap or kick back and hit the driver. The bar can also fly off the lever and risk hitting people or property nearby. Cheater bars can also exceed the working load limit, causing the strap or chain to break. Cheater bars are considered dangerous, and are not recommended." Are they referring to combination bars when they refer to cheater bars? Every place that I look, "cheater bars" are discouraged, but are they the same as combinati9on bars that have the box on the end?

I was at work and I saw a fellow trucker using snap binders. My company does not allow them. 5 minutes later I heard his cheater bar hit the ground. The pipe slipped off the binder and he instantly had a baseball sized lump on his forehead. I rushed him into the closest building and called 911. He left in an ambulance. Not sure what happened to him.

So scary, I’m extremely careful when I use them but it can still happen to anyone at anytime.

@bigj97604 жыл бұрын
You brought up that picture of anchor points per manufacture, which leads me to a question I've been wondering maybe you know. My company teaches to hook straps through rub rail and onto trailer frame but I see you and many (most) other flatbedders hook directly to the rub rail. Where do you see any kind of WLL posting for the rub rail itself? All of our trailers have these postings somewhere giving rail a WLL of 2,000 lbs. but I dont see anything about that here. I currently have one of the few trailers we have with a double reinforced rub rail with a 5,400 lb WLL and have my straps hooked accordingly.
@DrivenTrucking4 жыл бұрын
Some run rails can be used and some can’t. Technically, if the rub rail does not have a WLL from the manufacturer, DOT can give you a ticket but I think that’s extremely rare. If the rub rail is damaged in a certain spot then it can’t be used or if your company says don’t use it then I wouldn’t. For longevity of the rub rail, try not to use it if you can help it but sometimes it’s necessary. For instance my new step deck, I have to use the rub rail for the majority of my straps.
